Advantages: more money, more relaxed, no teletubbies
Disadvantages: long hours
I am a full time working mother of 3 little girls aged 7,4 and 2 and I wish to say it was the best move I ever made for my sanity!!! Long gone are the teletubbies and tweenies for conversation and its hello big wide world of adults, it's a great way to feel needed in a way that doesn't involve nappies and snotty noses. I have had a few part time jobs since having my first child but now I have chosen to pursue a full time career and juggle my home life!! It is far from easy and often I am up at 5am to do packed lunches and iron clothes and the reality is i'm rarely in bed before midnight but I wouldn't change it for the world. I actually work from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday and my children are cared for in my home by my wonderful, fantastic saint of a sister-in-law!! Since starting my job my kids and myself haven't been happier they get the best of both worlds, spoilt rotten by their aunty in the week and great days out and plenty of quality time at weekend with myself and husband. We are better off finacialy and so much more relaxed. I have tried doing the housewife bit but to be quite honest found it mind numbing!!! Please don't get me wrong I take my hat off to all the women who actually stay at home with their family. But I just can't ever see me doing it again!

- 02/08/03 Mumsymary I applaude all mothers who stay at home with their children. Unfortunatly I will be the first to admit that I feel if I was to stay at home my children would be worse off not just in the money sense but in the sense that I would feel stressed out all the time through lack of adult company. I need to work purely for my sanity!! I was diagnosed with post natal depression and my only cure has been to go back to work! Now I am a fun mum who lavishes all spare time and attention on my kids!!! |

- 16/07/03 Good for you, there is so much nonsense talked about working mums negleting theri children and this causes so much uneccesary guilt amongst many parents. You can be a good mum (or dad for that matter) and go out to work just as you can be a bad one and stay at home... |
