This is a real touchy subject for me and I would just like to express my opinion on this. Both my husband and I work in our local leisure centre, we have two young children, I work full time and my husband part time, although he has tried for promotion several times but with no success. It is a real struggle swapping shifts or relying on their great grandparents to babysit. We could have taken the easy option and taken all the taxpayers money to scrounge a house, live off the dole .etc., but what kind of example is this to our children and society.I think the government should be doing more to help working families as apposed to those who have children to earn a free living and accomodation.Even with both of us working we still cannot afford a mortgatge due to the rising house prices and are struggling to make ends meet.Although I would rather be home more, my children are happy in others company and my daughter who is approaching 3 cannot wait to start school , so there is 1or 2 advantages as will as being able to spend a lot of time with dad, but if given the chance I would love to be 1 of the mums who go to work for pocket money and not necessities. So if given the chance to work part time I would say go for it, but if you have to work full time and people are judjmental just remind them your not taking their hard earned cash to live.
