Advantages: spending time with your child, don't miss any developments

Disadvantages: none

I have 1 child and I am a stay at home mum and I absolutely cherish the fact that I am able to stay at home and spend quality time with my child. My husband works full time and luckily we can manage on his wages which means I am fortunate to be able to stay at home. Being a stay at home mum is like working full time as you are constantly on the go. I have worked in nurseries and always vowed I would never put my child in nursery full time and go to work, as I didn't like the idea of someone else seeing my child do their firsts (e.g first sat up by themselves, first words, crawls and walks etc.). As i have worked in a nursery I know they are not allowed to tell you that your child as done something but you would never know if they saw it first. I know a lot of people have to put their child in nursery but I personally could not do it.

I do volunteer at a local children's centre running mother and toddler groups which means my child gets lots of social interaction. He also spends an afternoon in nursery once a fortnight when I get together with other mums and plan what groups etc will be happening in the coming weeks. I often do courses which last a couple of hours meaning my boy is getting the benefit of having a little time in nursery but the majority of time with me.

I do a lot of things with my boy and I make sure we do things with other children at least twice a week this means he is a very sociable little boy and is coming on leaps and bounds. If a parent has to work I don't look down on them they are doing what is best for their family and therefore their child is benefitting from this. I will go back to work part time when my child starts preschool at 3 years old but until then I will continue to enjoy being a stay at home mum.

Summary: If you can afford to be a stay at home mum i would definetly recommend it.
