Advantages: Teach kids right

Disadvantages: YO places to lenient

Young offenders deserve to be treated just like any other criminal. Young people will not learn any different if they are put in a cushy little young offenders place, because, as some 'inmates' have told the papers, its 'better than home'.

I think that is an absolute disgrace to the British judicinal system. People who commit crimes should not be able to go to a place that is better than their actual home. They should go to a hard bed and be behind bars. This may sound harsh, but particularly when they are young this kind of action will make them not want to do another crime for fear of going back.

The James Bulger Case is another absolute disgrace. The boys who did it should serve the time of 'life' which I think is 25 years. Seven years won't of done them any better, and it is feared that they are likely to commit more crimes because the young offenders place where they were at has 'hardened' them up.

There is also the case of that 17 year old rapist who started raping when he was 14, but because he is not classed as an adult he doesn't have to serve a long time.

The law needs to be changed quickly, and the message spread that underage crime will not land you in a cushy centre. It will land you in a place that is not far from hell.

Maybe this would bring down the crime rate of the British youths......

Some valid points.
I think, for the majority, parents should be made answerable, too many getting away with too much.

Most kids who commit crimes come from homes where they were treated badly by their parents in one way or another. Putting this kind of child behind bars and offering them no support, or means of understanding the gravity of their offences, will not stop them from re-offending when released.
