Young offenders deserve to be treated just like any other criminal. Young people will not learn any different if they are put in a cushy little young offenders place, because, as some 'inmates' have told the papers, its 'better than home'. I think that is an absolute disgrace to the British judicinal system. People who ... Read the complete review

I am not exactly sure in which category that this opinion should be placed and I hope that Dooyoo will insert it in the appropriate one in due course but in the meantime I will place it in the young offenders column as it relates to criminal matters the role played by the police and court procedure I consider myself to a be a pretty ... Now I am not normally a critical person but today I am going to put my fussy hat on and be quite honest. It's a problem that happens everywhere in the country every day of the year and according to new statistics released by the goverment teenage and young adult offensives are on the increase. But what can we do? I live quite ... Read the complete review

Governments (and oppositions) are often heard demanding tougher action against Young Offenders - get them off the streets, lock them up, that'll teach them. No, it won't It isn't my intention to argue that we should never lock young offenders up - obviously for serious crimes there is no alternative. But locking up ... Read the complete review

Is mankind naturally good or evil? The question of whether mankind is born good or evil is something which philosophers have examined for hundreds or years. In the nineteenth century this topic was very popular, with men like Freud developing Psychoanalysis. There is evidence in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde that Stevenson was interested in ... Well it all depends on the crime committed, and the age at which it was committed. But basically to crack down on young offenders I think we should put them into a detention home, and be stricter that they are at the moment. I think in this home everything they do for leisure should be limited right down. A basic day would consist of a lot of ... Read the complete review

The Killers of Jamie Buldger are about to be st free into society. However, they are not only to be set free they are to be given completly new identifications along with an excellent CV. Alot of children do not have the chanche to recieve such qualifucations that a young offenders detention centre offers. Surely this is nopt fair. many would ... Read the complete review

After hearing jamie bulgers killers are to be released , I feel I should write this opinion. What the goverment are saying is okay you killed an innocent child but it is okay now we will let you out, but what makes the goverment think they wont kill again. I know they were only ten years old when they killed jamie bulger but they knew what they ... Read the complete review

Most of the reason young people get in trouble is because we are young. Our teenage years are there for us to learn through before we become adults. I also believe that as youths there is relatively little for us to do other then get in trouble. At 15 years old you are not old enough to earn money, thus we are unable to afford to go out ... I teach in a post 16 college and have taught in a young offenders Institution. The majority of young people who end up offending and, perhaps, in YOI are the products of a home environment where the parents (on the rare occasions where there are both) care little or nothing for the value of education and less for the "old fashioned" ... Young offenders are a bigger and bigger problem in this country. They steal, they maim, they attack and they injure. Some do it for drugs or other things but many do it because they say they are bored and there’s nothing to do. Nothing to do? That really is no excuse. When I was young there were no PlayStations, no bowling alleys, ... Read the complete review

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is discusted at the lienient way Jamie Bulgers killers, Jon Venebles and Robert Thompson have been treated. Later this year they will be allowed their freedom, new identities, university, jobs!!?? They have their whole lives to lead. I'm sure Jamie would have gone on to do all these things ... If you have children then you will agree with this statement. Ask any 10 year old and they will be horrified at what Robert Thompson and Jon Venables did to Jamie Bulger! I have spoken to many children of this age and asked if they thought killing a person, (let alone a small child) was wrong. They all agreed that they knew it was wrong ... Read the complete review

Much legislation has been directed towards the young offender and the persistent young offender. Being treated leniently at first with warnings, to curfew orders and even parenting orders puting the onus on the parent to keep them under control. You must ask youself though is there any purpose to this, how can we improve or even maintain ... Read the complete review

Sally Jessy, now she knows what to do with young hoodlums. Boot camp or take them inside for a day. I saw an episode last week where the kids were beginning at 12 and 13 to get into drugs and sex and whatever else was going they could do. Ok people will say but that's the states not the UK. I don't hold with the opinion that there is such a thing as 'bad child'. Evil through & through. The environment may be bad, the environment & a combination of factors may be evil. NOT the child. After all that is what we are dealing with here is children. I think the problem is far more intrinsic than this opening ... Read the complete review

I think England is going to go down the pan unless the government do something about young offenders. From what I can see, young offenders get away with anything. The police are powerless so we cannot blame them. So its all down to the government. I really don't know why the government are not doing anything about the issue. Its times ... I have studied law for the past 5 years and nothing I have learnt has equipped me to deal with this type of problem. I could use a cynical view and judge an offending youth as unlikely to be rehabilitated into society successfully. Or I could be optimistic and take the stance that with better socialisation in a secured environment they could be ... Read the complete review

I have an idea... I have read some other opinions on this subject and think that they all have some valid points, mainly the fact that Young Offender's cannot be very easily reintroduced into society. My personal opinion is that unless you keep rehabilitating young offenders every single day there is no point in keeping them. People ... Read the complete review

This is a really tough one. Young offenders?the term alone has a chilling feel. Before you can ask what to do with them you have to question why they offend in the first place. To offend the child must be unhappy, or happy through offending which boils down to being unhappy with the norm. Why might they be unhappy? Sociological ... Read the complete review
