Advantages: Tasty, Cheap as chips, Simple to cook.

Disadvantages: Could do with more flavour in sachet.

As you may probably already know, I am currently a student living out at University. I work to support myself here, and I like to treat myself once in a while with this money to nights out or a shopping trip, so I try to be very careful with my food budgets, and on my most recent trip to the supermarket, I thought I would pick up some ASDA Smart Price (own brand) instant noodles as they were an absolute bargain, and as long as they do the job, I'm happy.

I brought these chicken flavoured instant noodles for 11p. I have to admit that this is the main reason I purchased them as they were so dirt cheap. I knew it was because they were own branded and probably would be nothing like my usual Super Noodles, however budgeting means sticking to your limit, so I actually ended up picking up six of these as they were this cheap. Bearing in mind many other noodles in packs like these are up to £1.00 in price, you could get around ten packs of these for the equivalent of one branded pack.

As you can see from the image they come in the most unappealing packaging which you could really ever get. But at the end of the day, they are just to fill me up during the day while I am at University, and who really cares what brands you buy? When you open up the noodles, they look exactly the same as your regular noodles and this is all that matters! Please note that the size of these instant noodles are a little smaller compared to your normal pack. This is 65 grams making it the perfect size for one person. I find this convenient as I often waste Super Noodles as I feel there is too much for just one person in a packet.

These noodles are safe to microwave as well as cook on the hob. I personally prefer cooking noodles on the hob as I think the flavour comes through more, and you can keep an eye on them much better. My favourite thing about these noodles are that they are just so easy to cook. Add 200ml to a saucepan, and then empty in the sachet once this has boiled. You get a decent sachet size of chicken flavour, but there is not as much as other instant noodles sometimes have. Then add in the noodles bit by bit and leave them to simmer for about two to three minutes. These soak up the water really quickly and leave a lovely flavour surrounding the noodles.

I often serve this up on its own as a snack to keep me going in between lectures, however I sometimes use these as an accompaniment to a meal to make it more filling. The flavour of these noodles are fairly good. The noodles themselves taste pretty much exactly the same as any others which I have tried in the past which is excellent considering the price. The chicken flavour is really tasty, however there is not a lot of flavour, so ensure you do not put too much water in the pan as you will lose a lot of the chicken flavour and there is not much to go round anyway! I often enjoy quite bland foods and am not huge on flavourings and sauces, so this is perfect for me! They definitely do not have the flavour strength in which other instant noodles have, but for 11p it does the job and they taste pretty chickeny to me!

Overall, I would definitely recommend these noodles to everybody who is on a budget with their food shopping currently. They are perfect for the family, and really tasty so that kids would enjoy them too. For 11p you can't really go wrong, and in future I will only be buying this rather than Super Noodles. Obviously, you can not expect premium quality as it is a basic, own branded packet of instant noodles, but for a quick easy snack they really do the job and keep you full for a few hours. Thanks for reading.

Summary: As far as value for money goes, you can't get any better!
