“ Brand: Campbell's / Type: Pasta „
Pasta and Sauce is a guilty pleasure of mine. As I am following Slimming World these are have a low syn value. I normally buy Batchelors but in Asda last week these were only 50p so I decided to try them.
The packaging is the same as above and I have seen 4 flavours in Asda this one, tomato and herb, cheese leek and ham and chicken and mushroom. All the flavours Batchelors make.
The pasta is easy and quick to cook, you can use the hob or a microwave, I have never tried the microwave preferring to use the hob. You need to mix 120ml of semi-skimmed milk and 280ml of water in a saucepan with the contents of the packet, you can add a nob of butter if you wish, something I never do. You then bring the pasta to the boil and simmer for 8 minutes.
In the microwave you mix the same quantity of milk and water but the water has to be hot. You then place the contents of the packet into a large bowl and microwave for 4 minutes, stir and then continue cooking for another 4 minutes. Once the pasta has finished cooking it needs to stand for 2-5 minutes.
The contents of the packet is a powder which makes up the sauce and then the pasta which is tube shaped and smaller than dried pasta you would buy.
The pasta once cooked stays hot for what seems like forever so I always leave it to stand in a bowl to cool down.
The sauce becomes really thick when the pasta is standing, I like mine to be slightly runny because if when I am not on a diet I like to have bread and butter to dip in the sauce.
The pasta tubes become slightly larger once cooked.
This pasta in sauce has a lovely taste it is really cheesy with pieces of broccoli inside the sauce.
This serves one as snack or two as part of a main meal.
After eating this I feel full, there is a decent amount in the packet and it is ample for lunch.
When cooked this contains 500 calories when made up as directed by the packet and 4.2g of fat which isn't too bad.
I would recommend this pasta in sauce I can't taste any difference between this and the Batchelors version. It is frequently on offer in Asda. I always keep some of these in my cupboard for back up.
I love pasta dishes and I especially like packets of things that I can simply make up with water and/or milk or water and to heat it up with ease.
This Campbells one I bought a few days ago in my local Asda store and cost me 95p for the packet of it.
The pasta comes in a red and white, foil on the inside and paper on the outside oblong packet which is a large size. On the front of it we are told that it is indeed Campbells Pasta & Sauce Cheese & Broccoli and that it contains natural flavours and less than 3% fat and that it is suitable for Vegetarians and there is a picture of the pasta dish made up on the front of it. On the back of the packet other information listed includes being told a bit about the product, cooking instructions are listed, ingredients and allergy advice is given as well as storage details, a full nutritional chart, the weight of the dry mix is given (which is 120g) and contact details for Campbells are given. Nice enough, easy to tear open packet this is and of course it is informative enough too!
The Pasta Itself:
Well to make this dry powdery mix up we simply have to add 120ml of semi-skimmed milk and 280ml of cold water with an optional 15g of butter or margarine and to mix it up by hand and then we can either simmer it for a few minutes or microwave it. In appearance you get alot of thin yellow liquid with lots of small green bits in it and small tubes of pasta and then when cooked most of the liquid is absorbed by the pasta and it looks plump and smells cheesy.
Taste wise I really like this easy to prepare pasta dish and you get plenty of it too. The pasta is soft and well cooked without being too much so and goes plump and it really does taste cheesy though not like mature cheese and so not too strong. The green broccoli doesn't really look like broccoli at all and I can't detect too much flavour given from that to be honest but I can detect a hint of garlic running through it and this isn't a greasy dish just a pasta and cheese one! This gets a big thumbs up from me as a quick and handy meal in a packet!
