Golden Wonder The Nation's Pasta Macaroni Cheese

Description: Manufacturer: Golden Wonder / Food Type: Pasta

I had never seen these until last week, and almost walked past thinking they were just new Pot Noodles. Then when I looked closer, I realised that they are actually new, and although they look like Pot Noodles, they are pasta in pots instead.

I paid £0.85 for one of these and bought "The Nations Pasta, Macaroni Cheese" variety. You can also buy spaghetti bolognese and spicy tomato flavours.

As with a Pot Noodle, you simply peel back the foil lid, add boiling water and leave for a few minutes (5) to allow it to cook. This is fantastically simple and a great way to have a hot lunch at work, in minutes.

So, i added the water, left it and then went back to see how it looked. I was actually quite surprised, the pasta looked great and the sauce was thick and creamy. It definitely looked more appetising than I had expected. When I tasted it. it was pretty good too, the sauce was really cheesy but didn't taste artificial and the pasta was just right, not too soft and not too hard. Loads better than I had expected it to be!

The nutritional info is on the back of the pot, so you can see what it contains, sadly, it isn't particularly healthy, but I suppose that is the same for most macaroni and cheese meals.

I will definitely buy this again, it was surprisingly tasty, the cheese sauce was creamy and cheesy and it went really well with a bread roll to make a quick and yummy lunch - these are a handy stand by to keep in the cupboard and create a hot snack in minutes.

Golden Wonder The Nation's Pasta - Macaroni Cheese

I reviewed Golden Wonder's new addition of Chip Shop Curry Noodles a few weeks ago and was not impressed with the taste at all. I purchased the Nation's Pasta - Macaroni Cheese (top middle in the photo) at the same time as I thought they were too cheap to pass by with them being half price.

Part of a new range from Golden Wonder, the Macaroni Cheese is joined by Spaghetti Bolognaise and Spicy Tomato. I am a big lover of all things pasta and cheese (amongst other things!) so it was naturally my first choice.

The pot looks just like a pot noodle apart from the packaging being predominantly black instead of white with a tear off lid. The recommended retail price of this product is 88p which is not a bad price as far as quick snacks go.

Upon opening the packaging there seemed to be more powder and pasta in than the noodle variety. There was a lot of powder that makes the sauce and plenty of pasta pieces too. When I added the boiling water to the fill line the sauce looked very watery and I was not sure that it would thicken up enough. I covered it back over with the lid and left for 5 minutes.

I returned after 5 minutes and removed the lid to find a delicious rich pasta and sauce - a complete surprise to how watery it looked previously. The sauce tasted silky smooth and really cheesy and the pasta was soft and not crunchy. It was very filling and I accompanied itwith a chunk of crusty bread - delicious.

Obviously these snacks are not low in calories but are a nice treat every now and then. I was not very fond of the Chip Shop Curry Nation's Noodle but I am certainly a fan of the Nation's Pasta. I will certainly be trying out the two remaining flavours soon.
