Sainsbury's Basics Spaghetti Economy Description: Dried Pasta Anyone reading my reviews will know my feelings on the supermarkets own ranges which aim to offer the consumer savings by spending less on fancy packaging. As the packaging simply gets thrown in the bin anyway, it makes complete sense to spend less on it in my opinion. There was a time that I walked past these ranges in the mistaken belief that because the packaging was cheap and nasty, the products would be too. Now, I must confess that I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of many of these products and instead of passing them by, am keen to try them and see what ...  Read the complete review

Half Price Wicked Spaghetti (359 words)

My mum did a wicked bolognese for tea last night and she laughed when my dad said how nice the spaghetti was because he always moans that she puts too much spaghetti on his plate because he's not mad keen on pasta but today she'd used the cheapo Sainsbuys Basics spaghetti he loved it! I hadn't noticed until then that there was anything about different about this pasta so that shows how nice it is because my mum usually buys one of the brand name spaghettis and this ones loads cheaper. A 500g pack only costs 39p and that's exactly half the price of Napolina for the same size pack. My mum said she cooked the spaghetti for 10 mins and I reckon she ...  Read the complete review

Sainsbury's Basics Spaghetti Economy: Isn't all spaghetti pretty basic? (738 words)

In this credit crunching times we are all being encouraged to shop '1 brand lower' meaning looking down a shelf in the supermarket as the premium brands are at eye-level, the cheapest stuff on the bottom shelves so hopefully lazy people can't be bothered bending down to save a few pence! I have tried my fair share of the Sainsburys Basics range (the cheapest things you can get in Sainsburys) and some are ok, some really do taste cheap but one I have settled for using is Basics Spaghetti, not the tinned stuff in tomato sauce, the dried strands for spag bol etc. I used to eat normal Sainsburys Spaghetti which cost 56p for a 500g packet which was ...  Read the complete review

Spaghetti saving (Sainsbury's basic spaghetti) (499 words)

Pasta is the staple food of our household. We eat it almost every night, so I felt I had sampled enough by now to have a decent opinion on whether the Sainsbury's basic spaghetti is worth downgrading to during the current economic climate. It seems that most of us are now on a mission to cut back on our household outgoings, and cutting our food budgets is an easy and productive step in the money-savers arsenal. The 500g pack of Sainsbury's basic spaghetti is made from transparent plastic, with the typical 'basic' orange and white Sainsbury's branding and the long spaghetti clearly visible through the pack. On the back of the pack, as with most pasta, we're ...  Read the complete review

Sainsbury's Basics Spaghetti Economy: Excellent spaghetti for economy price (375 words)

I have been using Sainsbury's Basics Spaghetti more or less since it was introduced into the range, long before arch meddler Martin-bloody-Lewis started telling us all we've been shopping wrongly for years! Spaghetti Bolognese is one of my signature dishes, I've always found it an incredibly easy dish to cook and luckily everyone in my family enjoys this meal. What I cannot understand is why people insist on paying up to £2 for a packet of dried spaghetti when this 39p pack does the trick wonderfully, yes it might have a slightly more watery taste but if you think about it you'll most likely be drenching the cooked spaghetti with a rich tomato based sauce ...  Read the complete review
