Most weekends I have a curry at home (if I stay in of course lol). My Mother gets me a ready dinner of some type or another and of course I love rice with it so she gets me some rice and bits and pieces to go with it cos if she didn't get me anything she knows if she goes out then I probably wouldn't eat lol!
A purple cardboard sleeve with a picture of the rice covers a black plastic round tub with a clear plastic lid covering the rice. On the front of the sleeve I'm told it is Sainsbury's Mushroom Pilau Rice 'Basmati rice cooked with whole spices, mixed with mushrooms, tomato and flavoured with curry leaves' and I'm told it is 'delicately spiced'. There is an at a glance nutritional information pye chart, I'm told it contains no artificial colours or flavours, I'm told it is freezable, Vegetarian and the display till and best before date are stamped on. On the back of the sleeve a full nutritional chart is given, ingredients are listed along with allergy advice and being told it serves 1 and that it is suitable for Coeliacs. I'm then given cooking and storing instructions, details for Sainsbury's are given, size is stated (250g) and finally there is a bar-code on there. Nice enough packaging and I do like the generous portion size. In my view there is even too much for one person.
Well it's simple to cook this which is a major plus point for me! In the oven cook it in it's pot on 190C/Gas Mark 5 for 15 minutes from chilled or for 30 minutes from frozen or microwave it 2-3 minutes from chilled or for 4-5 minutes from frozen. Either way it's easy and fuss free to prepare.
So there is loads of basmati, light brown fluffy rice which is incredibly well cooked and moist (though not soggy) and this is due to the rice being cooked in vegetable stock and you can taste veggie flavours throughout this dish. There are lots of well sliced mushrooms which are nicely cooked and not too mushy but hold well, some tiny cubes of flavoursome tomato's and a slight amount of onion sliced within it too. Lots of cumin seeds give an interesting crunch to the dish and the fresh coriander and curry leaves give this a really authentic flavour without it being overpowering in any way shape or form but there is an abundance of ingredients in this!
This is a lovely accompaniment not just for Indian meals but for anything really and it's even nice cold!
Contains Celery & Mustard.
Not suitable for peanut, nut or sesame allergy sufferers due to the methods used in the manufacturer of this product/
