“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Pasta - Ready Meal „
While a lot of the country is seeing the effects of the warmer weather, unfortunately I'm stuck with winter like conditions (it was snowing this morning). Therefore for lunch I wanted a warm treat. This is where one of my favourite easily made meals came in: Tesco's Cheese and Broccoli Pasta. The packaging for this is very simple and is identical to the picture shown above, green packaging with a bowl of pasta on the front. Even though I know it's not going to be the best meal for me, I do think the pasta on the packet looks really good. You can buy these for around 70p from Tesco. The pasta is really simple to make. You pour the pasta shapes in to a bowl or pan and just add water, milk and butter, some people will make it with just water but I always use all three to make sure I have a nice creamy sauce. You can then either cook the pasta in the microwave or on the hob, this takes just short of ten minutes. I tend to try and opt for the microwave with these as I find cooking on the hob can often lead to the pasta sticking to the pan. Upon opening the packet you are hit with a smell of cheese, this is quite strong and continues throughout cooking. Personally I think it smells amazing as I love cheese but I think others may find it a little overpowering and artificial. After cooking you are meant to leave the pasta for two minutes to let the sauce thicken up, however when I set my mind on wanting this I'm usually too impatient to wait and eat it straight away. Admittedly I don't think it always looks that appealing, sometimes the sauce looks a little strange and the pieces of broccoli in the sauce looks a bit more like snot green than broccoli green. However, I can easily over look how it looks for the taste. The sauce is very cheesy and strong and every so often you get the taste of broccoli. As long as you cook it properly the pasta is soft and there is always plenty of sauce but not too much so that it's sloppy. Personally, I prefer the taste of this to the branded alternative as the cheese taste is a lot stronger and tastier. The packaging says that it serves two people, which I think might stretch this a little too far. I tend to eat a whole pack by myself, though I can sometimes struggle to finish it all. If I'm sharing this I tend to serve it on toast to make a filling lunch. I always make sure I have at least one pack in my cupboard to make a quick, tasty and simple meal. Therefore I would definitely recommend this and it gets five stars from me!
