RIM Blackberry Leather Pocket
by kama0529
I received a Blackberry case with my first Blackberry phone and initially I was fairly impressed with it. The case itself is black and is made from a strong leather which is obviously built to last. It's a pocket design and so the idea is that you slide your phone in and out of the pocket case as and when you need it. My phone was not ... for business use but for personal use and so I did think that the standard black case was a little boring when you compared it to that on offer for the iPhone. I don't know if there are other cases available, but I think you should get a choice of colours for the cases as we aren't all suits looking to be as professional as possible. I, for one, am a fan of neon pink!
The positive aspect of the case is that it is clearly designed to protect the phone when it is not being used by giving it somewhere safe and protected to be stored. It does mean that you can carry the phone in your bag or pocket and feel secure that the screen is not going to get damaged. In addition to this, because the case is a little hard, it also means that if you drop the phone on the floor when it's in the case then it is going to have some impact protection and I would imagine you're much less likely to damage your phone accidentally. When the phone is inside the pocket case it is not going to fall out and so you can be fairly certain that the phone will remain where it should be. It does also mean that if it's in your pocket you can't accidentally phone people (which is a common trick of mine at 4am!).
However, a negative of the case is that you actually have to take the phone in and out the case when you want to use it. For example, if someone calls you, you need to remove the phone from the case in order to see who's ringing you - and it would be just so much easier if you had a case where you could flip up the front and have a look. The phone does fit quite tightly inside the pocket case, and while it's not difficult to remove, it would be nicer if the design meant that the case remained on the phone when you wanted to use it - because obviously when you're using the phone the phone has no protection at all when using this case.
It does have an inbuilt mechanism where the phone goes into standby once it is put inside the case and therefore you preserve battery when the phone is not in use and this is a really nice touch that I did find was useful.
I have to admit that while this case is protective, I gave up using it after about 3 weeks just because it's not that practical and it's not very sexy. It's just not something I find particularly inspiring. Read the complete review |

RIM Blackberry Leather Pocket

I often buy accessories for my Blackberry through Amazon.co.uk. RIM Blackberry sell their official products through the site and delivery and cost is very reasonable. This RIM Blackberry Leather Pocket is perfectly designed to hold my Blackberry 8520 and is made from a faux leather material. The Leather Pocket offers good protection ... against bumps and scratches for your precious Blackberry. My Blackberry 8520 has also survived a number of accidental drops from my pocket, so the case certainly does its job.
The leather Pocket is very smartly designed and finished, with the faux leather material and the Blackberry logo neatly stamped towards the foot of the case. The case has remained smart looking even though it has taken a few knocks, and it is standing up very well to the punishment. The case is finished to a high standard, with strong stitching and a size that holds my BB perfectly. As I use Amazon for a lot of online purchases I could find this case at a very reasonable price of under £4, and as you are buying from Blackberry you have the confidence of the brand behind you. When you slide your phone into the case it automatically goes into an energy saving mode, preserving battery life and giving the convenience of fewer charges. I think this feature is value for money in itself, and well worth buying the case for if you use your Blackberry a lot.
There is one design fault in my opinion. The cutaway at the top edge of the case is on the wrong side, as I cannot see the light flashing if there is a text or call waiting. If this was on the other side of the top edge then it would be ideal for checking for messages without having to remove the Blackberry from its holder.
Overall I am more than happy with both the quality and price of this official Blackberry product. I must knock one mark off for the design fault (IMO), but other than that there is nothing to fault for this price. Read the complete review |

RIM Blackberry Koskin Pocket
by bilbobaginz
When you own a mobile phone like the 'Blackberry Curve 8900' I own then it is likely that somewhere along the line you're going to be worried about its protection, from both heavy falls and theft. The 'RIM Koskin Pocket' cover has simple features which protect your device from both these aggrivating experiences - experiences that can ... happen all too often.
To begin with, I'm going to look at the products ability to resist damage to a phone when it is dropped. The wallet is made from a relatively thick leather material, coated to resist water particles at 'splash' level, but not capable of stopping large volumes of water from seeping through. This is partly due to the tiny gaps inbetween the threads which stitch the two pieces of leather material together. On the interier of the product, a soft, thin, cotton layer lines the leather and protects the phones screen and keys - limited padding is included which could hinder the phones ability to reduce damage. The Blackberry symbol pressed into the exterier of the product does nothing to reduce its resistence to impact.
When I tested the product accidentally, dropping it from a height of roughly 1.5 meters onto a rough wooden floor in my house, it resisted all damage to the phone which remained in prestine condition, and it didn't turn its self off or attempt to re-boot unnecessarily either.
Other advantages to the product become evident when looking at its shape and structure. An indented lip at the top of the wallet allows for the user to grip the phone and pull it out easily, for example. This lip also highlights the area of the screen in which the time is displayed, a piece of information users regularly check whilst on the move. Similarly, the tight fit of the wallet means the phone isn't made to be too bulky in your pocket, and this was a diffcult challenge, as the phone its self is much wider than many popular alternatives.
Blackberry's recognise when they are within one of these wallets too, meaning different volumes of ring-tone and text-tone can be set for when the phone is holstered or not. Similarly, the phone can be set to vibrate or not, recieve calls or not, connect to local wi-fi networks or not, and pritty much anything else you can think of! - what a great idea.
I believe this product reduces the chances of a Blackberry phone being stolen, as it neatly disguises the device as something less technical (and therefore less valuable). The only thing is, it does make the phone look a bit like a wallet which is just as high on the thiefs 'to steel' list as a phone! It does seem more likely however that you could pass the device off as something of less value than it actually is, reducing the chance of theft. I have to say though, I definetly havn't tried this out!
Overall, a decent product which all Blackberry owners should consider buying - whether these exist for Iphone's and the like is another story altogether, but do look out for them if an Iphone is the device you own! Read the complete review |
