Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2 TC ... sinks which use a copper core (copper poured inside aluminum), the Copper Silent 2 uses more material over the DIE where high energy flows (copper plate) and in the external areas where low energy flows, less material (only 5mm aluminum plate). Thus a better efficiency is achieved, hence better cooling performance without increasing the weight.

The heat transfer of conventional copper cores onto aluminum is ensured by thermal compound, which transfers the warmth extremely poorly compared to metals. In contrast to this the Copper Silent 2 uses a super-thin tin film. This has the advantage of approximately 25-times higher heat conductivity of tin compared with the thermal compound.

Compared to the Copper Silent the cooling performance was improved, without increasing the height of the heatsink or violating the height restriction area.

The Copper Silent 2 TC uses a thermally regulated fan system. For regulation the temperature of the heatsink is measured, which corresponds over a correction curve directly with the CPU core temperature. In contrast to the control over the air temperature the method used by arctic cooling is more complex, but substantially more precise, which lowers average noise levels and utilizes the temperature bandwidth of the CPU more effectively.

The Copper Silent 2 TC utilizes all 6 hooks of the socket, which leads as with the predecessor models to a low socket strain.

... this cooler is the TC (Temperature Controlled, it can't stand for Thermocouple since the temperature sensor looks like a thermistor to me) controlled speed. For general web surfing or word processing the system will not generate much heat and so the fan will be controlled to stay at low RPM which reduces noise. Of course, if you start utilising the CPU intensively for anything it will produce more heat and this cooler will respond within seconds by increasing the fan speed. If you run the computer like this for a ...more

Premium Review Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2 TC: ARCTIC COOLING LIVES UP TO PROMISES (444 words)

Rating:

In my quest to make my "work" PC quieter I found that most Socket A quiet coolers were made by Zalman and were very expensive, up to about £30. This is because they are mostly made of Copper or entirely of Copper. The Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2 TC retails for around £10 and still makes use of the advantages of Copper over Aluminium. It does this by using a solid block of Copper (about 40mm x 40mm x 5mm) on the base of the aluminium heatsink. This means as much of the heat as possible is removed from the CPU and put straight into the fairly standard Aluminium heatsink, but, over a larger area. The other great advantage of this cooler is the TC ...  Read the complete review
