I was given this as a Christmas present last year and at first it was a big novelty and I loved using it but to be honest it hasnt been of great use to me.
The Belkin CushTop can be bought on Amazon at the moment for 25 pounds which seems a bit excessive for a cushion to be honest. It not only comes in the colour shown above but in brown which is the one I received 9 months ago.
The idea of this device is a cushion for your laptop. Mainly for people who dont own a desk and use their laptops sitting on their knees. Anyone who does this knows how uncomfortable it can be after a while and not to mention the heat that radiates from some laptops it can become a real nuisance during summer months.
The CushTop is padded for the comfort of the user and laptop. It has a pocket built it that can be used to store accessories such as usb keys or a mouse. This is a one size fits all cushion so it wont make a difference if you have a 17" screen or a 13.5% screen they all fit the same on the cushion.
The reason why I havent used this so much is that I like to have my laptop on my lap as I watch TV and with the cushion elevating the laptop it blocked my view of the telly! In order do both I had to at sideways peering over the laptop. This turned out to be even more uncomfortable.
I did find it nice in bed and it gave great support but I dont often have my laptop in bed with me so this seemed like a bit of a waste. I wouldnt go out and buy this myself. Especially not for 25 pounds.
In the meantime I have also gotten an iPad so I rarely need to use my laptop anymore! I wouldnt really recommend this because I didnt see it as being very useful. Its a novelty more than anything and unless you like sitting on the floor or in bed with your laptop I just dont see the point in owning this.
Both myself and my husband spend far too much time playing around on our laptops, particularly while sitting on the sofa watching a bit of TV. I wanted to make the experience more pleasurable and I hate having a really hot laptop sat on my knees, especially, in the summer months when the extra heat isn't appreciated.
This Belkin CushTop is quite a simple concept and design, a cushion like knee-top desk that you can place your laptop on when using it. The cushtop is also slanted at an angle, which makes it easier to type on. When using this my laptop feels quite secure and I don't worry about it taking a plunge off of it.
This product also has a small space in the middle, a small cut out section, which is great for putting cables in or through to keep them out of the way. It is not a very big space so it won't store larger items, but it will store some things and I do find that this little space comes in handy from time to time.
This cush top does help to cool down your laptop to a certain degree, keeping the side vents clear. But when using this I still find that my laptop gets hot to the touch, it just isn't as uncomfortable or noticeable as it is when I don't use this cushtop between me and the laptop.
This product feels rather lightweight, but sturdy enough and even with constant use it has retained its original shape. In fact, it still looks pretty much like brand new. If for some reason you did need to give this a bit of a clean it should be easy to get rid of most of everything with a damp cloth.
We own some of the other Belkin products in the brown and blue colour so I thought it appropriate to get the same matching cushtop. The main colour is the chocolate brown, which is quite a nice shade.
You can usually buy one of these online or in store for around £10, which isn't that much considering the amount I have used mine.
Overall, this is a pretty good product and does exactly what I bought it too do. I would happily recommend this product to other people who like to use their laptop in bed, on the sofa, or basically anywhere away from a desk. Personally, I think that this deserves a well earned four out of five stars.
When you are in bed and want to use your laptop putting on your legs is a bit inconveniant due to the heat coming from the laptop. You also tend to find yourself looking down constantly due to it being far lower than what your eye level is. When I found out that these were being sold I was a bit wary of it because I was thinking how could a cushiong hold up a laptop with ease. I thought I would purchase it anyway as if it did work could be very useful.
I paid just over £9 for this but I have seen the price vary from £9 to £12. With it only being a cushion you wouldn't expect it to be any more expensive and I think the price that it is at is one that customer won't actually mind paying. Before people start thinking they will just buy a normal cushion this one is designed specifically for your laptop.
The cushion is big enough to hold laptops with a screen size of 17" so this is perfect if you have a Vaio F Series like I used with this. What you will find is even though the material is very soft on your legs you will also find that it can hold the weight of the laptop so there is no chance of it falling. The cushion is also designed with the angles so that your laptop will sit securely in the cushion which is a good design.
After purchasing this even though I was a bit wary as to whether it could work or not I was very pleased with this item. It is so conveniant for people ot just purchase one so that they can comfortably sit in bed with their laptop. For the price of £10 you realy can't go wrong with this item. I would deifnitely recommend this to anyone who has that specific problem.
Ah ha! Here I am writing my review to you from my laptop on my nice and new Belkin Cushtop. After my disappointment with the laptop cushion and light I took myself off to PC World and purchased this lovely little cushion for £10.00, thank you very much ;)
Now when you get it, it doesn't look much. Just a cushion with a hole in the centre and it is on a slant but it is amazing to use with your laptop.
I got the Cushtop is the grey colour as that was all that was available. the middle bit where the hole is an orange colour which gives it a nice touch and brightens the boring grey up.
The Cushtop is suitable for 15" laptops up to 17" laptops. Any bigger and it just isn't going to fit sadly.
The first thing I noticed about the somewhat sponge material is that although it is nice and soft for comfort on your legs, it is also firm enough to take the weight of a laptop and not collapse under it. It is angled so that the Cushtop is on a slant. This isn't for a moments creativity by the designers, it is actually so that you can see your laptop better without hurting you neck or having to sit uncomfortably.
The main reason I purchased this though was because I was sick to death of using the laptop and resting it on my legs, leaving the laptop to burn my legs. We have a leather sofa so resting it on the arm is a big no no. With the Cushtop I have had the first best evening of use ever with my laptop. I have been comfortable, my legs have stayed nice and cool and the laptop doesn't feel like it is getting overly hot either. It usually feels alot hotter than it does tonight.
The Cushtop is really well made. it is nice and sturdy and I cannot see it falling apart any time in the near future or the distant future - unless one of my cats get ahold of it! Plus, if it does decide to fall apart on me, it is covered by Belkin's lifetime guarantee - obviously Belkin have alot of faith in their products and if I am honest, so do I.
The Cushtop is money well spent and one of the best £10 I have spent. I just wish I had done it sooner. Highly recommended to all laptop users.
The Belkin Cushtop is quite unusual when it comes to laptop stands - you may be used to seeing strange fiddly plastic devices, perhaps with fans built in, but this definitely does something a bit different.
The material is hard to describe, but it is hollow and very lightweight for its size. I do get the feeling it would be quite durable and the chance of breaking it is unlikely. I've never tried treading on it, but generally that's ill advised. For anything.
As for its actual purpose: the Cushtop works wonders. When sat with Cushtop and laptop on your knee, it puts the screen at a much more comfortable, useable height that means you do not have to strain your neck quite as much. Furthermore however, it does a great job of keeping both the laptop and yourself cool - they can really get hot sometimes. I'd say they make using your laptop safer, as it won't overheat.
Magically also, the laptop manages to grip on very well, and slipping or falling off is rare. Overall then, there is very little negatives I have to say about the Cushtop and in my personal experience it is the best laptop stand I've had. Very well recommended.
After watching my son for the last couple of years carting a rather large heavy piece of wood about with him everytime he used his laptop, I decided to look to see if there was anything that would be more suitable than this.
The reason he carries this about is so he can protect his lap when using his laptop ( as it is known that men should protect themselves from the heat of the laptop, well I think that is why or he has become attached to a piece of wood!!).
I was really pleased when I spotted this Belkin Cushtop and started to look into it, I read some good reviews online, but there was a few bad ones as well that said that it overheated the laptop, went lopsided when used, laptops slid off ect.... so I phoned one of my other sons, as I was buying this for my sons birthday and didn't want him to know. My son wasn't too impressed with them either and advised me not to bother. So I thought I would give it a miss.
Being that once I get an idea into my head, it gets very hard for me not to follow it through, so against my sons advise I ordered one. As it was only £9.99 plus free delivery it wasn't too much to waste if it turned out rubbish.
This comes in two colours, a grey steel with orange inner or chocolate with grey steel inner. I chose the chocolate one as I thought it wouldn't show the dirt as much.
It arrived the next day and when I opened it I was very pleased. It is extremely lightweight, weighing just 908g so much lighter that a piece of wood. It is a strange shape as being on the oblong side it slopes down and is bigger on one side than the other. The reason for this is that on the top side it can hold a 15" or on the under side when turned over it can hold a 17" laptop.
Now is it any good, well in two words "JUST EXCELLENT", it is one of my better buys on impulse. The cushtop is made from some sort of Thermocols and is covered in a hand-washable microfiber which is handy. The middle which has been cut out has been made so that you can store your mouse and cables inside. Now this can be a problem depending on what sort of mouse you are using, as not all will fit in easily. Ours fit in fine and it is great to be able to store your cables and mouse together when you carry them about to different rooms, all being kept in one place keeping them all tidy together.
As for slipping off this hasn't happened when my son has used it or when I have. I think if you have feet on the bottom of the laptop you should be pretty safe, I have read that Macs seem to slip though. So far after several months of constant use on a daily basis, this cushtop still looks brand new with no bending or lopsiding. When in use it the laptop does leave feet indentions, but after being taken off and left for a bit it springs back as new.
You will notice that the cushtop does get warm from the laptop, but not overly hot ( my son is on his laptop for hours on end and it only ever gets warm!).
What is also good about this is that it lifts the laptop up higher for a better height for using and is very good to use in bed ( I borrow this all the time when I go to bed!). The measurements for this is 439 X 349 X 102cm so not to bulky.
So I'm glad I took the plunge and bought this ( even the other son is getting one after seeing his brothers!), my birthdays coming up soon and I keep hinting that I would like one of these, instead of having to keep pinching my sons one! ( I would like the grey steel colour incase any of my family are reading this!!).
This is worth a good 5 Dooyoo stars!
My boyfriend bought me this rather mysterious looking object for my birthday, knowing how much time I spend cosied up in bed on Facebook and Dooyoo - he was worried I was going to overheat the laptop and set the bed alight one of these days!
The Belkin CushTop is, according to the packaging, "uniquely designed for comfortable laptop use on the couch, bed or floor". It is a sort of asymmetrical traezium shape made from what feels like that tightly-packed polystyrene stuff that is used as packing for electrical items and the like, slightly padded and covered in a hard-wearing fabric.
It is taller at one end than at the other so that your laptop is slightly angled, enabling you to see what keys you're pressing more easily when it's on your lap (for the non-touch-typers among us!), and one surface is much wider than the other, so it is suitable for both 15" and 17" laptops - just flip it over. Simple but ingenius!
The other simple-but-ingenius idea is the 'hole' - the CushTop is hollow in the middle, thus creating a handy storage area not only for the power lead as the packaging suggests, but also for all sorts of computer paraphenalia - external hard drives, CDs, mouse, camera whilst you download photos, MP3 player, biscuits... the list is endless.
The main purpose of the CushTop is to ensure that both the laptop and user do not overheat and it fulfills this purpose impeccably. I'd been faffing about on the internet for an hour or two before I started this review, and altthough my legs are pretty warm, if I hadn't had the CushTop I would have had to take the laptop off my lap by now. Lifting the laptop up, the CushTop feels warm, but again, nothing like it would have been had it been sitting directly on my legs. The other advantage I find with this product is that the fabric covering provides a non-slip element, meaning that I can move about (reach for things, etc) and my laptop stays put on the CushTop, when otherwise it might slide off my lap.
The only bad point I can see with this prodct is that it is rather large and cumbersome, and does not break down to a smaller size for storage, but this is a minor niggle. Overall this product is a brilliant idea which has been innovatively designed.
The Belkin CushTop comes in four different colour combinations and retails from under £10 on the internet.
Got my Belkin CushTop today from Play.com for a mere £9.99. At that price I couldn't resist - and I'm glad I didn't. The CushTop comes in black or grey (with a burnt orange inside). The black was twice the price of the grey with burnt orange so I went with the grey. Upon first glance, the CushTop is basically an angled lap tray with a hole in the middle. It's not until you place a laptop on it when you realise how handy it is.
The soft, firm material is sturdy but comfortable to have on your lap. The burnt orange interior looks awesome and holds everything I need it to. What it does is:
- Angles the laptop so you needn't crane your neck
- Prevents your legs from getting hot whilst still providing the laptop to breath and not over heat
- Stores stuff in the hole in the middle, such as laptop charger, cables, or even stuff that you need to get out of the way but need instant access to, such as a phone, iPod or even a small book!
Though I haven't been using the Belkin's CushTop very long I can safely say it's £10 well spent and I honest can't see it ever suffering from wear or tear. To be honest, I'd be hard pressed to damage it by intentionally smacking it against a wall. Great built quality.
For 17" laptops you can flip it upside down and use the side with the larger surface area. This is very clever and Belkin obviously put some thought into making this product.
--THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW---
-The CushTop is designed only for 15" & 17" laptops. If you have a smaller or larger laptop then do not buy this, it simply isn't built for it.
-The middle doesn't zip up or anything, so be careful when carrying. However, unless you tip it vertically the stuff inside will stay inside, which is good.
I recommend to anyone with a 15" or 17" laptop who suffers from any of the irritations I described above or who just wants somewhere to store there stuff whilst typing away!
This is a must have for any owner of any laptop. I'm sure all laptop owners have discovered the discomfort of using a laptop for too long. The hot lap, the dead legs and the strain on the neck from looking down at your lap are all symptoms of the fact you've spent hours on your laptop. The CushTop is the saviour to all laptop users. The shape and size of the CushTop make my laptop at the right height and angle for me to look at without aching. The material it's made out of removes almost all of the heat which the laptop gives out, feels comfy on your lap as well as light weight and durable. Possibly the best feature of this though is the hollow middle of the cushion. I use the space to store all manner of things, like flash sticks, CDs, my mobile to name a few. I find it's also the perfect to put my IPod while it is plugged into my computer. At the cost of this invention, I don't see any reason why any laptop owner would not want to buy this.
