I use my PC a lot and as a result I have to confess that the keyboard does get dirty over time. Plus with three very fluffy cats in the house there are always a few cat hairs floating around which come to rest on the keyboard.

I once bought a little USB vacuum cleaner to try to suck out dust from the keyboard but to be honest it wasn't especially effective so when I saw Cyber Clean advertised I was intrigued.

What is it?

It is a lump of bright yellow gel in a tub which you use by pressing it on to the keyboard. It is very flexible and as you press it on to the keyboard it picks up the dust and debris. Simple really.

According to the manufacturers it is recognised that computer keyboards harbour more germs than a toilet seat! Uuugh. They say that not only does the product pick up dust and grime it also kills germs.

Is it easy to use?

To be honest I can't think of a cleaning product that is easier to use. I just opened the jar it came in and took out the gel and proceeded to press it into the keyboard and it picked up all the dust. It isn't unpleasant to handle, just unusual. It feels cold and squishy to hold but it isn't especially sticky. It has a pleasant fresh smell and is very brightly coloured. I never felt that there was any danger of it separating and bits staying behind.

According to the label you will need to replace it when it goes a dull green colour. Mine hasn't as yet but I suppose it depends on how much dust you clear up with it and how many surfaces you need to clean. I found it great for the keyboard and wonderful on remote controls which I always find tricky to clean.

I doesn't clean off stains, only loose dust, hair etc. If you have spilled something on your keyboard you will need to clean that off by other means.


Would I recommend it?

Yes I would. I bought my 145 g tub from Amazon for £5 with free postage but it is available from numerous other suppliers at a range of prices. There is also a version available for use in the car which I haven't tried.

It is a great way to keep your keyboard and remote controls looking clean and fresh and if it kills germs as well then it is ideal especially now that the colds and flu season is upon us. It is certainly the most effective way I have found for cleaning remote controls with their tiny little buttons so I am happy I bought the tub. According to the manufacturers you can also use it to clean children's toys although they don't recommend that you let children play with the gel.

It is recommended that you keep it away from direct sunlight in a dry place. You also need to make sure your close the lid to the container properly or else it will dry out. Certainly and effective product which will doubtless be a talking point around the office!
