Advantages: None - aside from the satisfaction of binning it.
Disadvantages: Where do I start?!
To this day I often wonder why I purchased a screen protector for my laptop. My screen was never at the risk of getting scratched and I had a screen cleaner for it which works particularly well to get rid of dust and dirt so my screen protector was a bit of a waste of money really.
To use the screen protector you first have to clean your laptop screen with the cleaner which comes with the protector. I found this cleaner to be awful stuff. It was slimey and left awful marks on my screen. It left like a clumpy residue on the screen and I ended up having to get out my original screen cleaner to get it all off defeating the object before I even started. I was easily beginning the regret buying this screen protector as I was steadily losing faith that it would actually work. The cleaning solution claims to be non drip but this stuff dripped absolutely everywhere. And the cloth that was with it felt rough and I point blank refused to use it as I did think it would scratch my screen. It was supposed to be a soft microfibre cloth. I don't know where my soft cloth was!
Once the cleaning process was done (a two minute job actually ended up taking 20 minutes!) it came to the point of adding the film to the screen. This is nerve wracking stuff as if you get it wrong and pull it off, the whole thing sticks together and creases up. Luckily this only happened to me once and it was just a crease in the corner but a crease all the same. You really have to have patience when you are doing this as it has to be lined up correctly with the edges of your screen to cover the whole screen properly. When I actually got the protector on there was a huge air bubble in the middle and I spent a further 5 minutes trying to smooth the damn thing out. This was slowly turning into a disaster.
Once the protector was on the screen I found out from the packaging that the protector is only supposed to last 2 months so I was left feeling like I had really thrown some cash down the drain. The protector is supposed to be non reflective but I always noticed a glare coming off of the bottom corner so this was definately not non-reflective. After about 2 weeks, I noticed that the protector was starting to peel off and roll down. After a couple of days of trying to get it to stick back on (afterall, I had spent £6 on this piece or rubbish!) I yanked it off and threw it across the room much to my husband's amusement.
I had to clean my screen again as the protector had left some sort of alien looking sticky residue on the screen which took ages to get off.
I really advise not bothering with something like this which is no better than a piece of clingfilm. It was absoolutely awful and I do not recommend it at all. The only place this is fit for is the bin.
