Maybe I have a little bit of paranoia about me, but whilst on my laptop with my back turned to people i always have a feeling that someone is looking over my shoulder sometimes. Imagine if you could protect the data on your screen from prying eyes, at the same time as protecting the screen itself from scratches. Well, with the Kensington Privacy Screen you can do just that. This review is for the 15.6" laptop screen, but the good people at Kensington supply privacy screens to suit all laptop sizes.
You may wonder how this product works. Is it just like a tinted window that also makes it hard for yourself to read the screen also? This is not the case. The screen data will appear blurred and unreadable to anyone with a viewing angle upto 75 degrees. The privacy filter is attached using a number of sticky clips. i think there could have been a better fixing solution personally, but this is my only criticism. If you intend to remove the filter quite often and replace it quite often then you will soon find yourself improvising with sticky tape or other attachable means because the clips supplied wont last very long.
The filter has both a gloss side and a matt side, which means you can use it to reduce the glare on your screen. I am also pleased with the quality of the filter itself, although it can be very easy to get fingerprints all over it and you may find yourself cleaning it more often than your laptop screen usually requires.
Overall, I am quite disappointed with the price. At between £30-40 this is quite expensive for what is effectively a piece of tinted plastic and a few clips. It may not offer as much protection as you believe it to. if someone were sat by your side then they would still be able to see your screen. However, if you are looking for a privacy solution then this may suit your needs, just dont expect it to eliminate prying eyes completely!
