I have a Sony eBook reader, a PRS-505 which is a couple of years old now but still in great condition due in part I believe to the screen protector I have on it. I have a leather case for the product also which protects the device as a whole but this protector is meant for the screen only. I have this because although my leather case is good it does not protect the screen when you are reading on it and I thought this was essential for a product like this.
I think there is nothing worse than a scratched screen when you are trying to read something. I guess on a phone or an iPod it is not such a big problem as you are not always looking at the screen, you may be making phone calls or just listening to music but with an eBook reader all you are doing to use the product is looking at the screen so a clear, scratch free screen is essential.
This product is basically just a thin plastic film that you put over your screen to stop it being scratched. I bought mine for John Lewis and it was priced at £10 which is a bit expensive for what is essentially a bit of plastic but it is made specifically for this type of eBook reader and so fits properly and is recommended. The film is easy to fit to the eBook reader screen, you just peel it out of the packaging and then stick it onto the front of the screen. I find it is best to line it up on the top and then work it down with your fingers so you do not get any little air bubbles which will effect the surface of the film and then mean it doesn't sit properly. The film is not sticky but it does grab onto the screen tightly and once on does not move or shift if you touch it in any way which inevitably you do. However the nice thing is it does peel off easily if you get your fingernail under one corner and pull it off. This is good because if you do apply it a bit haphazardly and not correctly you can replace it on again and get a better fit. Because the film is made especially for this eBook reader it fits perfectly on the screen and does not overlap in any way. Also, if you do pull it off it does not mark or harm the screen in any way so you can remove it safe in the knowledge that you have not damaged your screen in any way.
I was worried when I first got this that it would put some sort of glare on the screen or make the readability a little bit worse in bad light but it is so see through that it does impair the quality of the screen at all so this is definitely something I would recommend to protect your eBook reader.
The sony e book reader is one of the gadgets I have used most in the past year since purchasing it. Never does a day pass by when I don't click the nifty little reader on and browse a few pages of one of the many books I have on there. Therefore with getting so much use and being a costly £189 I felt the need to get some protection.
It comes with a leather case initially but the dust can easily get in and when reading and opening, picking up and putting down, it is still prone to scratches and this can be really off putting when reading. Therefore I heard about this product, the official Screen Protectors from Sony, and at only £1.99 for ten I decided to buy them. Why these aren't included out of the box with the product though is beyond me!!!
Anyway, basically for your money you get a pack of ten stick on screen protectors which fit neatly over your viewing page on the e reader. They easily stick on without any bubbling that would get in your way and peel off easily as well leaving no marks or bits of the sticker on there. They are thin and see through of course and once you have used it once or twice you will not even notice they are there! They do their job and each protector will last at least 2 weeks depending on use before they become a but murky!
All in all this item does it job by protecting your screen....they are essential if like me you like to look after your gadgets and use them a lot and given you the peace of mind that the accidental drop wont now result in your expensive gizmo getting a nasty scratch!
