With my Sony Vaio laptop this docking station was included as a package. It usually retails at around £140 - so here is my review.

      What is it?

Before I go on with the review lets just get to grips with what it really is. Simply put it's a docking station - this means you put your laptop on it - and it allows you to replicate the ports that are on your laptop. So take this scenario - you are at work, you have everything connected upto your laptop, external keyboard, external mouse, external projector...and it comes time to go home - what do you do? You will have to pull all the cables out and then pack up your laptop to take home...now lets look at this scenario when using the port replicator docking station....you go to work, sit your laptop on the docking station, plug everything into the docking station (not your laptop); now when it comes time to go home, you simply take off your laptop from the station and packup! Everything is left plugged into the station for tomorrow.

Let's get one thing clear. When you place you laptop on the station there is a connection between the laptop and the station, so that's how the ports are replicated.

So now that you understand the use, let's get on with the review.

      The Ports

      3 x Hi-Speed USB - 4 PIN USB Type A
      1 x network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T - RJ-45
      1 x display / video - VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)

These ports are really useful, USB - you may have an external keyboard, mouse and a printer plugged in at the office. Network connection for your office internet access, and the display port for a large monitor or projector, the VGA is a universal port which is on all display units these days...so you have everything you would need for the office.

      Who is it for?

Well if you have a Sony Vaio TZ series laptop then it will be compatible with this. It is designed for people who have lots of connections to the laptop at home or in the office, and want a "quick release system" and simply pickup the laptop and go.

This is a very cleaver piece of kit, I use it at home all the time for the printer, and mouse. But at £140 I would not have purchased it separately if it had not been included with my laptop purchase.

      It comes highly recommended.
