As I mentioned in a previous review I'm partial to assembling and fixing computers on occasion. Unfortunately due to the size of computer components nowadays this work is quite fiddly and on a very small scale! The screws you deal with are about a 1/4 of the size of a normal woodscrew and so can be a pain to use with ordinary screwdrivers. I've lost count of the number of times I've worn the head of a computer screw and had to spend an age removing it by another means. I saw sense one day however and invested a paltry £8 in the Startech Precision Screwdriver Kit. The kit is a 7 piece set with 3 flat heads, 2 cross heads, and 2 TorX drivers. The build quality is quite good with firm blue/yellow handles that don't flex in your hand and strong metal heads that are resistant to deformity. The entire set comes packaged in a plastic carry case which is a nice addition and prevents you from losing them accidentally.
Anyone who hasn't used a set of engineer's screwdrivers like these before will be in for a bit of a shock. They're not for high-torque applications and are actually quite difficult to turn with any degree of force due to their small size. This isn't a drawback however as it also stops you over tightening the same screws when finishing up the job. The variety of sizes in this pack is quite helpful as not all computer screws are born equal and you can end up facing a variety of different head sizes once you get the case open!
What may seem obvious to some is the fact that you can use this screwdriver set on things other than your computer. I'd say I've gotten an equal amount of use out of the set repairing remote controls and putting batteries in kids toys as I have opening and closing computer components! The TorX head is less useful here admittedly as not a lot of kid's toys contain security screws. The TorX models are useful for some models of Nokia mobile phone however if you wish to disassemble your phone for one reason or another.
Overvall this is a high quality screwdriver set that comes at a bargain price. If you need to open your computer, or indeed your remote control, you could do far worse than the Startech Precision Screwdriver Kit.
For anyone who has a pc and likes to tinker with it or just wants a good little set to keep for moments when things are going wrong the startech screwdriver kit is a good bit of kit.
I have a set that I can use for little jobs when I need to use them and I think the set works great. The thing with small components in pc s etc is that they are often tiny. Then if you haven't got a set of matching tiny screwdrivers you end up stuffed and unable to even open the housing let alone fix the problem.
The set I got was cheap to buy and cost less than £10. I think the price was good for what I got. The screwdrivers in the set are small and well made and they are a group of 7 that should fit a lot of the things that you need to work on with no bother.
When I have used the screwdrivers I have had no problems with them and I do try to be not to heavy handed when I use them. I know that trying to put too much pressure on something when trying to unscrew it can mean a screw head that is damaged beyond being able to be taken off. It can also damage your screwdriver tip and make it nigh on useless.
Luckily I have not had these types of problems and I put that down to good products and my careful usage. I think the thin but well made handles are ok and I haven't had any problems when using them. My hands are a bit big to grip them but I can do so with care.
In the set you get the following 1 slot 2.0 x 50mm, 1 slot 2.4 x 50mm, 1 slot 3.0 x 50mm
Plus a phillips 00 x 50mm and a phillips 1 x 50mm and a torx t15 x 50mm and t20 x 50mm
The set has a 1 year guarantee but I haven't had to use it. The set is useful for fixing other small items as well and its a good multi purpose kit. I would recommend it not only for computers because I have used it on other small screws and fixings and it has been handy to have.
Although I'm not a computer technition or claim to know anything about building a computer, I do know a little and have been inside a few computers to change the fan and I also like to take the casing off my PC at regular intervals to clean out all the dust that gathers there inside.
If you have looked at your PC casing you will see that it has many different sizes of screws hoding it together and to do the right job you need the right tool,so my husband always tells me and I came across this Startech Precision Screwdriver Kit whilst browsing around on Amazon and bought it for £8.00 which is about the average price to pay from an online retailer. You will expect to pay £14 from PC world or other computer part shops in the high street.
This set has everything you need to pull your computer apart and put it back again, each screwdriver is neatly made and although it's small the handles are well made and chunky enough to sit nicely in your hand so that you don't lose grip when using them.
You get seven screwdrivers in the kit and they al l sit inside the case so you can store them together without losing them when your not using them.
There is a size to fit each part of the computer as the screws on the casing of the PC are bigger than the one's inside, with these screwdrivers being only smal they fit into all the little places that a larger screwdriver won't go, so the design is well thought out on these.
Although in the picture the screwdrivers are blue and yellow the ones I bought came and were black and yellow, but I'm not bothered about the colour just the performance of the tools, which are good.
They also come with a years warranty, which is good to know incase they break but they do look like they can handle the wear and tear of using them.
I have also used these to bleed the radiators in my house as that is another thing I can never find the right sized screwdriver for and end up using a knife which isn't as efficient as these little babies. So they are not just for the computer.
If you are like me and like to keep your computer parts dust free, or change any of the parts inside your computer as they all screw off and can be replaced, then this little kit is cheap to buy, made well and has all the different sizes you will need.
I recommend it as it's a handy tool to have.
