Dell Inspiron 530s ... bought 10 of these from the Dell Outlet, and sold them on to various clients - both home and business users. The specification back then (early 2008) was a Core 2 Duo CPU running at 2.2Ghz, and they came with 1GB of RAM and a 250GB Hard Disk. I immediately added an extra 1GB of RAM and it made a world of difference. I ended up keeping on for my self, for running the business from, and it s been fine. This is a slimline machine, so bear that in mind if you re a gamer and want to improve on the (adequate) onboard graphics. I ve looked around for a half-decent, HALF-HEIGHT graphics card and ended up butchering a full height but quite small card. Doing that has freed up ... Apple eMac ... buying one, second hand, for 25 quid near 3 years ago. i can honestly say this product has served me well. i brought it from a college, which had had it for 4 years. hailing from the ppc/unix days when mac was truly mac, ive fallen in love with this computer. it suffers from a small hard drive space (at around 40gb) and low ram. but for its day was one of the best computers. it is very compact, and fits nicely and efficiently into corners. people often complain that it is large, though this is not so. because its all in one, it takes up far less space than your average joe desktop. speakers have a good response, only issue i have with them is with very heavy bass so... Apple iMac MB417B/A ... bought an iMac mostly because I liked the design and I didn t want to be forced to buy a PC with Windows Vista. It has been a mixed blessing. Firstly, the iMac is a beautiful bit of kit. It is well designed, well built and takes up a lot less space than my PC. The DVD unit is incorporated into the monitor, which also contains ports to plug in peripherals. The 20" monitor is crystal clear and the sound from the built-in speakers adequate to hear sound. A camera is set into the monitor, so setting up video calls is a breeze. There are only 2 USB ports, so I have bought a 4-1 adaptor for £20 that allows me to plug in all my bits of kit.
