Compaq Deskpro EN

Right I thought I write an opinion on the Deskpro EN computer as I uses it everyday at work and also do most of my Dooyoo time on it as well. Well first of all looking at the market at the moment there is so many machine out their that would cost you around 1000 pounds and would get a higher spec machine than this. ... Don’t be put off by this as this machine does more that it needs to with the power that it has. Now at work our computers are networked and it is very difficult not using all the services. But luckily enough we have administration right to install and remove software. MOTHERBOARD ------------------------ The type of motherboard that you get is a chipset –Intel 815E with the process power can go from Intel Pentium Three 667 MHz to 1 GHz. It comes with standard L2 of 256 KB integrated ECC, front side bus of 133 MHz and maximum Memory 512 MB. At least you know that the unit is future proof and will have no problem with further development. HARD DRIVE ------------------- You get a large amount of hard drive space around 10 gigs, which are more than enough to run all your application needs. Of course you also have the option to upgrade this to around 40 gigs whenever you like. Hard drives have never been a problem on machines as it can be updated at any time and this system support ultra ATA/100 drive protection system that is a newest system around. MEMORY -------------- The actual processing speed for the memory are PC 133 which is really fast and can be populated by one DIMM slot of either 64, 128, 256. Of course you can add up to anything to 512 MB as the motherboard supports it. DRIVES ----------- There are several options available for drives are 1.44 MB Diskette Drive that allows you to put all of your floppy disk in. Also at time of purchase you can add a CD-ROM drive of 48 speed or a DVD drive 16 speed DVD
and 40 speed CD drive in one. Since it was a work machine and they want to save on cost they cave a CD ROM drive of 48 speed, as it’s cheaper. KEYBOARD ----------------- The keyboard is very comfortable to uses with nice button that don’t seem springy. It is an easy to uses keyboard with a few multimedia option buttons built on the top of it. These buttons allow you to open certain application faster as well as help with you Internet browser. MOUSE ------------ You get a two-button mouse that also comes with a scroller that allows you to move up and down on pages and option on the Internet. This mouse is brilliant to have as it come standard with the scroller mouse. The scroller mouse will save you so much time when you have large documents of down looking down web pages, I would recommend to anyone to buy one of these. SOUND CARD -------------------- The system comes with a built in sound card, which is Sound Blaster Audio PCI 128. I’ve played a few CD on the system and it sounds great with the standard built in speaker of the unit. You can add some extra ones if you like and more than happy to show NETWORK CONTROLLER -------------------------------------- The model that we have at work contains Integrated Intel PRO/100 VM Network Connection and work really well. This is also integrated on the system and is no a seperate unit. Does the job fine at work but would not use this option if it were a home computer. GRAPHICS CARD -------------------------- Intel 3D Direct AGP (option available on entry-level Deskpro EN models only) this is the basic card you can get for this machine but if you want to spend more money you can get much better card to play movies and games for your system. EXPANSION OPTIONS -------------------------------- Slots – there are 1 AGP slot for all types of graphics card t
hat support that type of slot and 5 PCI slots for other device expansions. Bays – There are two bays where you could add drive in like dvd, CD rewriter, tape backup and so on. OPERATING SYSTEM --------------------------------- The operation system that came with was a dual installation of Windows 2000/Windows NT 4.0 with selectable SP1 as standard. Which I think is not that bad and is really good for businesses that are taking their networks into the future. OVERALL --------------- The response and speed of the machine does allow me to spend a lot of time on the Internet to do all my opinions without any problems. I have noticed some slow downs during the day when everyone is in at work and can cause some lags. I really do like this machine as I do a lot of web design on the Intranet and with the speed and memory I’m able to run several applications at the same time. The system that I’m using is a Pentium three 733 with 128 memory and 10 gigs hard drive with network capability. I would recommend this system but there is a lot better unit out there at the moment that could be much better value for money. It also does come with three year on site warranty and the support that you get is really brilliant. Also the website offers all driver information and downloads available to you. Hope this has been interesting! :0)

When I first strode in ot the room and glared down at the little machine humming away on my desk, I thought, what a little machine. Indeed, the compaq en deskpro is quite a small machine, and it has many advantages, yet, like many things in the commercial world, it has its faults aswell. The computer would be ideal for a company ... because of its grat networking capabilities. The machine is easy to upgrade and repare aswell, because the cover comes off with a touch of a button. I also noticed that there was no "restart" button on the machine, maybe this was meant for a purpose, though it would have been more useful, as with some software programs computers do crash. The overall noise of the computer is quite low, and it stand by mode the computer is completly silent, however, for some strange reason, the dreaded cd-rom drive starts making that annoying whissss sound it makes for time to time.... The speed of the pc, of course depends on the model, but compaq are very reliable at delivring a good speed pc. One of the faults is the floppy drive, i dont know why, but compaqs tned to eat for floppy diskes so that they get broken.... Sound is good enough, I think this range come with top quality internal speakers that are crisp and sharp. When playing games, you can really see a difference between playing on a en series because quite simply the speed and the sheer quality of the graphics. They just like the tv, and the faster modems allow fast gameplay over the internet. I can understand why this computer was built for networking in buisnesses, because of the design of it. Overall, the quality of the macine is exceptiona, and it excells in all areas. This pc will clearly last you for atleast 3 years as a home user, and even then you can have it up graded!!! The customer service of compaq are reliable and they are easy to get in touch with. In conclusion, a great machine, with its faults. My Rating: 8/10
(I HOPE THIS REVIEW HAS HELPED YOU MAKE YOUR DECISION!!)

Compaq Deskpro EN

If you are in business, do not buy these machines. I have 25 machines so far and about 20% have broken down and Compaq's support has been appalling. You log a call, they take a couple of days to call back, then eventually then come, don't have the part, then leave you a loaned part, come back a week or two later to replace that ... loaned part, and then bugger off again. All this amounts to loads of disturbance and lost working time. I'm fed up with them, but they are too big to care about this customer!
