... using this PC at work for over 3 months I can say it has been a joy! It has suffered no crashes running Vista business edition and has performed impeccably. I know that the Chinese bought out the IBM machines division and I was expecting a decrease in the overall quality but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Acer Aspire M5100 ... year i was in the market to upgrade my pc and buy a better one. I found a website, acer outlet that sold premium acer products at a good price. It was just the pc, no monitor or speakers. When the computer arrived i unboxed the machine and set it up with my spangly new acer monitor and turned it on. A cool blue light came to life and lit the aspire sign. But i couldnt hear anything. The fan keeping the machine cool is super silent especially compared to my previous Vaio desktop which sound like a jet engine. The model i bought which was the M1500 had excellent specs : There was 1TB ( two 500gb hdd) installed, along with 3 gb of ram and an Athalon processor. The mo... Dell Dimension 9200 ... ve had this PC for work for 2 years now. I won t get into all of the tech. spec. here, but just give an overview of performance. Running Windows XP, it has a decent amount of memory (2GB of RAM) and is fairly quick, although it does have a tendency to slow down when using Windows Explorer. That could be down to the work network, but it s hard to pinpoint. I installed a Fedora Linux Virtual Machine which ran with no problems and no unexpected slow-down. You can run quite a few browsers at the same time usually without slowdown, although, as with all PCs, it does have it s moments! Apple iMac MB417B/A ... bought an iMac mostly because I liked the design and I didn t want to be forced to buy a PC with Windows Vista. It has been a mixed blessing. Firstly, the iMac is a beautiful bit of kit. It is well designed, well built and takes up a lot less space than my PC. The DVD unit is incorporated into the monitor, which also contains ports to plug in peripherals. The 20" monitor is crystal clear and the sound from the built-in speakers adequate to hear sound. A camera is set into the monitor, so setting up video calls is a breeze. There are only 2 USB ports, so I have bought a 4-1 adaptor for £20 that allows me to plug in all my bits of kit.
