Advantages: Fast, Upgradable, Reliable, All In One Unit
Disadvantages: The Colour and Patern
This is one very nice system which i found in a skip. I still have it as i found out that it was rare.
Anyway best get on with this otherwise i will not be going to bed tonight.
The iMac G3 Flower Power came out in early 2001 which was the fastest ever Apple Mac of its kind. Whilst other companies were working on the new 1GHz processors from Intel and AMD mac was not dominating the market.
At the same time of the iMac Flower Power apple also made some more casings to fit the specification of the main system.
Their names are as follows:
Indigo
Blue
Dalmation
The Indigo casings were a thought from previous years.
The Blue casings were upgrade from the original Bondi Blue.
Anyway thats the history of the iMac out of the way. The reason you want to read this review is because its about an iMac Flower Power.
Right the iMac Flower Power came with the following specifications:
500MHz G3 Processor
64MB Ram
20GB Ultra ATA Hard Disk
Slot Loading CD-RW Drive
ATI Rage 128 Pro with 8MB SDRAM
2 x Firewire Ports
2 x USB Ports (12Mbps Each)
56k Modem
10/100Base-T
Airport Ready
Apple Pro Mouse
Keyboard with 2 x USB Ports
The software that was loaded with the system:
Mac OS 9.1
QuickTime
iMovie 2
iTunes
Apple Works
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Microsoft Outlook Express
This was all that you got with the original factory release.
What can you get on it today?
You can add alot of things that apple have released today.
Operating Systems Supported: OS 9 and OS X (up to 10.3.5) Panther)
Office for Mac (Microsoft Office 2003 for Mac)
Virtual PC for Mac (Windows XP)
and much more.
What are my views on the system overall?
Well taking all things into account and weighing up all the pros and cons of the Flower Power i have to say that its a pretty cool system. You dont have a separate monitor which is good and you can move it about the house very easily.
Unlike Microsoft you dont get many updates for the operating system. The maximum amount of updates that you would normally expect with microsoft is usually 250+. With the mac you should only get about 30 updates in a year.
The system is one of a kind and i would recommend people to buy it. Dont forget that it is rare. People on auction websites are expected to pay upto £280 for one of these.
Anyway please rate honestly and if you have any questions please message me in my GB.
Dom xx
