My dad decided to buy me a new computer last year, so he bought one computer which is part of new technolgy! It was called an apple imac. I looked at the computer, and i thought it looked like a flat screen! And I was like 'Dad what is this? This is some sort of TV, not a computer!'
But shortly he explained afterwards!
The Imac is a really, really good computer! Although it may be a pain to learn as it is not like any laptop or computer where every is explained in the screen, but you'll pick up on how to use it very easily!
The best thing about this computer is that the screen is brighter so you can see things a lot easier - even when the lights are switched out! However, you can decided on how to make your screen brighter or dimmer buying following simple instructions!
The loading and it's speed is very good as well, and you don't have to spend minutes waiting for a page to load as the page on an imac will be loaded within thirty seconds! How brilliant is that!?
the computer is not touch screen and all you need is a mouse designed for imac and it's very easy to use - but make sure you get a mouse mat for it as it can be difficult to move around or sometimes it doesn't move at all!
You hardly get viruses on this computer and it's spam free!
You cannot take this computer out with you (not like a laptop) as it is too heavy to carry around - just like a normal computer, sadly it has to stay in one place.
To switch on and off all you need to do is switch on/off at the plug! simple!
You can't get msn on here (but you can access your e-mails via hotmail) as this is not run by windows.
The volume is brilliant as it is clear and you don't need speakers to hear it and you can have it as quiet or loud as you want!
You can still download on here and watch your DVDs and listen to music on CDs on Imacs.
Another disadvantage of this computer is that it has no word-pad or any where you can't write work, assignments etc.
Personally, this computer is amazing and something of 21st century technolgy and computers, it is worth a try you'll get some amazing results by using this computer. Sadly, as i'm going to university in September I won't be able to take this with me as it is too heavy, can't carry it in a case and won't be able to write essays and assignments as there will lots of these at uni! So at uni I'll be sticking to my normal laptop! Go and buy one, even though it is expensive, but worth every penny and worth the price!
Be part of 21st century technolgy.
The Apple Imac really is from my experience a wonderful computer that has both the speed and the design to appeal to anyone. It has a variety of features which really do make this an excellent computer that is well worth getting. I originally bought this iMac for around £500 or so on eBay and so far have been really impressed by the computer and the Mac OSX operating system. I was persuaded to make the move from PC to Mac after trying this computer out in an Apple Mac store in London and I really am glad I made the move - 'Once you go Mac you don't go back'.
In terms of performance and features the iMac has a 160GB HD and 512mb of ram which I upgraded to 2GB relatively cheaply. The iMac also has a intel core 2 duo 1.83GHz processor which really did give the computer overall great performance and I found applications really quick to turn and the overall operating system moved smoothly.
In terms of design and aesthetics I found the iMac to look great on a desk and really stylish. I loved how the computer/ motherboard is integrated into the monitor as this saved space and made it an ideal space saving computer. The 17'' monitor is of a really high quality and is great for watching films, browsing the internet and for general computer use. The iMac also comes with a built in i-sight camera which is ideal for using in applications such as Skype which I really liked.
Overall, the performance of this iMac is very good and it has a good spec. For an Apple Mac available for under £500 on eBay it provides a low-cost alternative for PC users. I would therefore highly recommend this computer!
I am a professional musician and sound designer and this computer was a heaven send for me. I have the 19 inch version and I use this for music production, editing, mixing, mastering, sound designing, video editing and all other normal things and it is fantastic. I have never had any problems with this computer, i frequently have more than 2 applications running at the same time, especially when doing music production and everything runs like a dream. I use some pretty memory intensive plug-ins when mixing music and still I have no problems with the speed of this computer. This Imac has opened up the professional possibilities open to me and has helped me develop additional skills which i would not of been able to do if i were using the old computer system i had previously. It is a beautiful machine both inside and out and i wouldnt change it for the world, unless someone gave me a Mac Book Pro completely free of charge. Working with film is so easy on this machine also and the amount of software available for it is like a dream. It was worth every penny and more
I am a self confessed Apple macintosh man, all the way, and even though I had a macbook, I had to have an imac as well, and at the time, I thought I was buying it just for the 'cool factor' but actually, it has been one of the best performing computers I've had. It is so well designed and thought out, and I love the small Apple touches, such as magnets on the side to hold the remote, and coupled with a wireless keyboard and mouse it is so neat and compact, which is so important to me! It is not ground breaking in terms of power, but is more than enough for the tasks I use it for such as word processing, and emails, and I also have had a dongle attached to it for freeview tv watching, and it copes fine with this! I'm very happy with my imac, and would recommend it to anyone!
as a mac owner for over three years i decided to write a quick review about this older imac as i know you can buy this one for cheaper than the current generation, and as I have found so many positives from this computer i thought i would share a review about this unreviewed product. It would be a good introductory mac if you are looking to switch from windows to macintosh as it works just as well as the most up to date macs and just a tad slower.
Contray to many beliefs, From about this generation (10.4-tiger) onwards, these computers will last you at least 5 years at the TOP end of the market. As a previous windows user, i found that after a matter of months even some of the better computers fall from the top.
As a quick review for this mac, It is pretty much the same as the later versions, leopard and then snow leopard, except for a few features like time machine which helps back up the computer and not totally essential. The speed of the mac is as fast as most of the new ones and has a very quick load up time. There is hardly any time latency from when you tap the icon to when it actually works. The small camera and microphone at the top are perfect for basic video conferencing via ichat (doesnt work with msn for mac!)
The well known software like safari and itunes all comes included and works sensationally on a mac. I know from previous experience it is a bit of a pain on windows as most computers have trouble multi tasking with itunes and safari but there is no trouble on the macs
The only problems i can see about this computer is the fact that it is slightly outdated on WLAN settings, no 'n' network, just b/g. Then also the price can still be quite high so if you intended on buying one then i would look around a bit.
The gaming aspect is always the one that comes up with people denying macs as the game selection is not as big and varied and costs more. I would also like to point out the very new games for some reason don't seem to work with the 10.4 operating system so be careful before you go out and buy the newest games and be sure to check it out. As a non-mac gamer (although i do play games, just on playstation 3) this does not bother me.
All i can say is i hope this review helps those who are not sure about whether macs are the best choice, even though i am slightly bias, i was once a windows user and can honestly say i probably would never buy a windows again as a primary computer, they are so much more complicated than macs which are simple and precise.
