I finally decided to purchase my own home PC and for no other reason than we use Dell at work, plonked for the Dimension 4100.

I placed my order through their internet site on a Sunday evening. Their phone based order checking service told me that the unit had been shipped the following Wednesday. I then had a call saying that the PC would be delivered on Good Friday - not bad - most companies avoid delivery commitments on bank holidays. So, four working days between order and receipt. Off to a good start.

The PC arrived in three boxes. I have had a lot of experience with PC's so the setup was simple for me. The documentation supplied with the PC should make this a fairly simple installation for the most inexperienced user.

The machine powered up and worked perfectly. I then installed a Dell procured digital video card that also worked perfectly first time. Plugging my Sony DV camcorder into the card allowed my to download video directly onto my PC within seconds of installing the card.

Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The quality of the display (19 Inch) and Graphics Card (Nvidia Geoforce2) 64M)is superb.

The modem worked without any problems enabling an internet connection less than 30 minutes from the arrival of the boxes.

The only complaint was that I ordered the DV card at the same time as the PC and it was shipped separately. If I hadn't had the experience of opening a PC it might have been a bit daunting to perform a hardware installation.

I am sure that you could buy a similar spec PC for a touch less cash but the overall simplicity of dealing with Dell, the delivery time and the quality of the build has made this a good experience.
