Advantages: Very reliable, runs smooth and very stylish
Disadvantages: Poor graphics card, no good for playing games
I splash the cash last May on this desktop from Dell and I've been impressed with the reliablity since. Don't get me wrong that's not to say nothing has gone wrong but in reality every computer has a glitch sooner or later. My problem was I was unable to turn on the computer, no power, no lights. As it turns out the power supply buggered up on me. A call to Dell with my customer details ready I was put through to there support.
It's vital you know Dell's support and technical centre is based in India so you'll will be greeted with an Indian support guy. I've never had any problems with this, they are just as professional and knowledgable as the next man, but the only set back is there accent; Which can be difficult to understand and your constantly saying "sorry," "can you say that again" or "pardon." Once talking me through the steps to sove the problem over the phone he then determind the power supply was gone. He then told me my PC would be picked up and taken away on the following Monday. Which they did and it come back good as new 3 days later. I was sorted and it's been working well ever since. My manufacturer's warrenty has ran out now so I hope to god nothing happens now.
My desktop runs Vista Home Premium which I find such a great operating system despite hearing bad things about it beforehand. The only problem I've encountered with Vista is you need to upgrade your software if it's not compatible. The graphics card isn't the best though so playing games really isn't an option for me as I do enjoy my flight simulators. The processor is an intel dual core processor but it doesn't provide good speed for games. This computer is primarily for office and internet browsing but not so much for games. Your DVDs and music however are not effected they work fine.
I brought the machine for £450 which I've never regretted. I've had a spare 20 quid so I upgraded to a 3GB memory which helps me out a lot as I open a lot of programmes at the same time. I was playing with the idea to either get a 22 or 19 each widescreen monitor but opted for the 19in. I'm so glad I did as it's a perfect size for me. The 22in would never have fitted inside my computer cabinet plus I can't imagine it's good for your eyes. Stick with the 19in or else it will look like you're sitting in front of a telly.
Summary: Reliable and stylish computer for all the family
