They will wait and help for as long as it needs, without ever sounding a bit annoyed, even when dealing with the most idiotic computer-illiterate simpleton! However, the system has now changed, keeping the service, but getting rid of the freephone aspect, which was vital to it. The price is not the best on the market, if you look to Tiny or Time you will find much better pric...more

Premium Review Gateway Essential: Recommended reading! (433 words)

Rating:

I got my Gateway a few years back, then it was a top-of-the-range model. Now it looks, in terms of specification, like it should be a complete write-off, not even valuable to people as a calculator. However, it still serves me very well and does everything I want it to. The helpline is probably the most important aspect of the Gateway deal. When I got mine there was 24:7 coverage, even on Christmas Day, as I found out! You can have any PC in the world, and it will crash, although NASA and IBM are working on the uncrashable computer. When it does crash it can all go drastically wrong and completely screw up the system, as it has done to me several times. This is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Gateway Essential 433C (231 words)

Rating:

The Gateway 433C (now replaced by slightly higher speed Celeron processor) is a entry level PC designed predominantly for the home market. Overall performance under Windows 98 is adequate for most purposes - Word Processing, Internet applications, etc. Running heavier duty programs such as Photoshop run into difficulties - mainly due to the 64Mb memory supplied with the system. There is plenty of hard drive space and a good CD drive. The monitor - although only 15" - is clear and easy to use. Gamers will be severely disappointed. The system comes with the Intel 810 chipset - which means that the sound and graphics cards are hard-wired onto the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Gateway Essential: I love my Gateway! (1049 words)
by - written on 11/01/01 (Very useful, 465 readings)
Rating:

I bought my Gateway Essential 450 in November 1998 for well over £2,000. It was the top of the range at that time, but obviously went out of fashion pretty soon. Before this, I am sorry to say I only had a 486 from Dan, with a meagre 400 MB hard drive. Can you imagine how small that is? I mean my son?s football games were talking up the entire computer?s memory. I realised that it was time to get a new up to date PC, and having researched the topic thoroughly, I went for the Gateway 450. The spec I got is shown below: Speed: Pentium II 450 MHz Video Clock Frequency; 200 MHz RAM: 128 MB (Upgradeable to 384 MB) Hard Drive: 9 GB ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Great Essential 800 (123 words)

Rating:

I am an engineering student at Cardiff University, and was looking for a first time computer that I could use for various programming and CAD projects. I found gateway on the internet, and saw this great value computer called "Essential 800". It seemed to have everything I needed. The only thing I had problems with initally was financing it; The company aren't particularly student finance friendly, however, other than that, I had no problems at all. Having paid for the system, I recieved it promptly, and it was easily set up. All in all a good company, even though they do ring from time to time to sell me "Discount" software, which can ...  Read the complete review
