Gateway Select ... the card. As a result the games performance is noticably lower than that of a GeForce2 of the time, however this has been a minor set back over the time. The CD writer that was included works superbly, the Adaptec software supplied does a great job and in the hundreds of CDs I've burned, only one has failed and wrecked the CD. Not bad going. The DVD player does it's job, and the Gateway DVD player, simple as it is, works wonders. The graphics card makes the picture slightly dark but this can be rectified by playing with the monitor settings. The monitor, while on the subject, is of a very high standard. If this description fits you, the Gateway Essential 933 is your kind of computer. Out of the box, the Essential 933 includes a reasonable set of basic capabilities for its price tag. Along with a 933MHz Pentium III and 64MB of RAM, you get a 17-inch monitor, a DVD-ROM drive, and a nice set of speakers. In addition, this PC is very novice friendly. Gateway Essential ... got my Gateway a few years back, then it was a top-of-the-range model. Now it looks, in terms of specification, like it should be a complete write-off, not even valuable to people as a calculator. However, it still serves me very well and does everything I want it to. The helpline is probably the most important aspect of the Gateway deal. When I got mine there was 24:7 coverage, even on Christmas Day, as I found out! You can have any PC in the world, and it will crash, although NASA and IBM are working on the uncrashable computer.
