These must be nice to work in one of those offices where everything is tidy, and a PC takes pride of place smack in the middle of each desktop. But in the messy real world, workers appreciate a PC that gives them elbow room to get on with the job, and the HP Compaq dc 7600 Ultra Slim Desktop comes in a tidy little package designed to do exactly that.
Measuring 315 * 345 * 75 mm, it does not need much room, and a display can perch on the solid metal casing. It even has a notebook optical drive for a low profile. If you need a bigger case, the dc 7600 range includes a larger desktop chassis and a tower case.
Processor choices start with a 2.66 GHz Celeron D331, and HP will offer a dual-core 2.8 GHz Pentium D 820 at the top end if you need to run multiple intensive applications. The fastest Pentium 4 option will be a 3 GHz 630 processor, combining an 800 MHz FSB with 2MB of Level 2 cache. This will pump out more than enough power for most business tasks now, and for a good while ahead. We recorded a healthy 1.73 overall in our benchmarks.
Anyone who has worked near a noisy PC before will appreciate the sheer quietness of the dc 7600. There are three fans: one in the fascia to suck air in; one on the back of the heat sink to draw air through; and one in the 200W PSU. it is cooled down quickly on return to idle.
I own one of these pc's and also fix them at work (Tech support/hardware support) and I've been pretty impressed with the quality and performance. It's ideal for browsing the internet and office work and it'll even play games so you can keep the kids entertained (Fifa 09 works a treat on my machine - although I have 1Gb ram). We've had a variety of pc's in work through-out the years and you start to notice patterns in the failings of certian model pc's, a certian branded pc came with 3rd party capacitors which were faulty, so when a fault was reported we knew straight away what the problem was. We've not had any problems with the hp dc model pc's as of yet and they've been used for over two years, my home pc has been fault free and I purchased that on the basis that they were so sturdy in work.
