Advantages: It works - well, too!

Disadvantages: Liable to be overtaken by technology

Hewlett Packard is a well-known brand leader in the computer electronics market place; I have one at home, and one at work. This Dc7900 model lends itself very well to home and business applications, where it is probably preferred by most users.

These days, processing speed is a pre-requisite irrespective of the environment in which the device is to be used, and HP take advantage of cutting edge technology provided by Intel in the form of their 2 quad Q9550 processor. The ultra-fast 4 core operating speed for this model is about 2.8 Ghz, thereby providing a number of task operations simulataneously. Assuming that the computer uses Windows Vista, then obviously it wlll need at least 2 Ghz of operationmal speed for smooth running, despite its seeming inferiority to XP. However, there is a further assumption that the successor generation to Vista, 7, will provide some marked operationally improved performances.

Looking now at cache memory, the device holds 12 megabytes all told.

The machine also has excellent operational capabilities, including smooth use of MS Office 2007 and Autocad 2009. The device may well need an upgrade at some point if the user wants to install more advanced features as PC technologies evolve.

But, there is no doubt that the machine is a modern emergent from the HP labs, reliable, and as good as you get from this type of consumer durable. A word to the wise, however; don't buy on line if you can avoid it; I suggest getting it from a high street store so that in the unlikely event of everything going base over apex, you can take it back and dump it on the Customer Relations desk and demand some action in front of other putative customers. You'll soon see some movement, and especially if you quote the Consumer Credit Act or similar at them. Check that out on Martin Lewis' website for further information.

Summary: Get one anyway
