A 24/7 server for SME purposes (HP Proliant ML350 G4p)
Advantages: reliable - powerful - U320 - good support Disadvantages: on-board NIC - noisy (this is no real disadvantage) Running two of these boxes, they have served me throughout the last year in production. Both mine have Dual-CPU, 2 GB of RAM. Contrary to the description, I can't consider this box as NAS, though it makes a formidable server at the lower end. But the quality of the hardware and the feature are definitively of 'server' grade. Robust, easy access to the parts and drives, hot-swap, spacious housing, efficient ventilation, redundant power supply; nothing to complain about. The also redundant BIOS and the full accessibility inclusive of the BIOS through serial console permits full remote administration (that's what I do). There is a quality disc controller integrated on the mainboard for 15 channels of U320-SCSI. My only gripe is the single cheapo integrated Broadcom Gigabit NIC. And do never think of placing it into your office or anywhere with human beings around. The efficient cooling is simply too noisy. But that's no down-side: a server isn't supposed to be placed in your office or living room ! Summary: A good lower-end, *real* server
