The Sony Vaio VGC-JS1E/S is a remarkable computer that I purchased from Comet in the new year for just £799. They have since released the JS2 for slightly more than that, or alternatively I recently saw the JS1 reduced in John Lewis to £599 (I think).
It is very smart and looks great on the desk if it matches the interior. The spec is perfect for what I need (I don't play games), and the 21' screen means I can have enough boxes open at the same time for my purposes. I have never experienced any slow down and after six months it is still operating at the same pace which I purchased it with.
The keyboard that comes with it is fantastic, with 'Mac' style spacing between keys, and the mouse is quite nifty too. The inbuilt webcam is of great quality, and as mentioned by another reviewer it is packed full of great Sony software.
The speakers are ok, although I would recommend purchasing an external pair. Overall though, a cracking computer, and the cheapest All in 1 that was available on the market at the time. The HP Touchsmart was only £200 more though if you have the money.
I have recently purchased this PC and bought it mainly for the fact it's compact, all in one yet is a decent spec.
Ok so the spec of the PC isn't AMAZING for the money but then again it IS Sony, so you are paying for the brand as well.
First impression is that it has a beautiful design, looks so smart on my desk, but we don't buy PC's for looks right?
It's performace so far has been fantastic. It's quick to load up, runs smoothly and hasn't crashed once even with everything i install on it (at the same time).
One down side would be the lack of VGA socket for an extra screen - which means forking out £50 in order to hook up another monitor via USB. Of course this only applies to those who use two screens, if your happy with just the one then theres no complaints, It has a sharp 21" widescreen!
Like any new computer bought in a package, comes the downside of having lots of programs already installed. It seems Sony have jam-packed it with Sony VAIO software such as:
-VAIO Music Box
-SonicStage Mastering Studio 2.5
-VAIO Movie Story
-VAIO Media Plus
-VAIO Recovery Utility 2.6
I'm yet to try these, as i tend to do my research on programs i want rather than just use what i got.
The computer runs almost silently! I can't hear it at all - my external hardrives make more noise than the PC itself.
A plus side for the girlies out there - it comes in a lovely light pink finish as well as having very 'nail-friendly' keys on the keyboard!
The SONY VAIO VGC-JS2E retails at over £1000 but can be bought from play.com for only £850 with free p&p. Bargain!
