The Sony Vaio PCV-RS402
Well what can I say? How about its beautiful!
Ok… right the details on it, these are the bits I don’t really understand but anyway, sorry if they are a bit basic, I wasn‘t sure how much to include! I don’t wish to put you to sleep!…
*Intel Pentium 4 processor
*CPU speed 2.8GHz
*Memory-512MB
*Hard disk- 120GB
*Inbuilt modem/DVD player and CD-RW
This beautiful looking desktop computer has an Intel Pentium 4 processor, it’s CPU speed is 2.8GHz, compared to my old one is really fast!
The Sony Vaio PCV-RS402 comes with 512MB worth of memory, this I was told you can upgrade, and the hard disk has a capacity of 120GB which considering I take stacks of digital photographs at large sizes I am not making a dent in it yet, but I guess it all depends on what you are putting on your computer.
It has an inbuilt modem which is lovely and quiet, unless you have your speakers on you will not hear it; (bliss for Budgie owners I will tell you J) The top speed of the modem is 56Kbps which may not be any good for Broad Band users? This I’m not entirely sure of, so don’t quote me.
Then on the tower you have your Disk drives… I believe I have a DVD+/-RW/CD-RW and a DVD-ROM, plus your standard 3.5” floppy disk drive, so I can watch DVD’s and back up my photographs and documents with ease. Also on the front of the tower is a special compartment with some nice features inside J well they were a bonus for me! Compact Flash Card Slot, ideal for my digital camera, I can just remove the card from the camera and slot it straight into the tower…. Bliss! No more cables. Also there is a Memory Stick Pro Slot, a Smart Media Card Slot, an I-Link Port and 3, yes 3! USB ports. All of which I haven’t had the pleasure of using yet.
Installed on the Vaio is The Windows XP home edition, which if I’m honest I really didn’t want, but after a few hours of play and a tutorial I got used to.
Then you get your extras, these include a keyboard, speakers, mouse and power cable. Personally I don’t really rate the speakers much, they don’t like to be turned up over half way or they distort the sound slightly, if you like base then I recommend you upgrade, and your mouse is just your standard 2 buttons with a wheel in the centre type thing.
So that’s all the technical bits I can tell you without going and finding a web site on it… *wonders if I should of looked up a link?*
So what do I think of this beauty of a computer? I think I died and went to heaven! It is a beautiful looking thing, sexy curves on the top of the tower adds an interesting touch and it has the name in bright blue neon across the front, which I like, yes it looks good…Although as I found out when moving it is rather heavy!
The flat screen monitor (which came with mine) looks stunning in a matt silvery-ish finish with a black edge to it, very much like a frame to a picture, and the screen is anti reflective, I think it is a liquid crystal. This is great to look at as you get no glare and minimal reflection but unfortunately it marks easily, not permanent ones (are 5year old child finger prints permanent?) I’m just a little apprehensive about cleaning it, as it does the squidgy coloured thing when touched… even gently. When looking at the screen straight on and in the centre the colour change is minimal but if you slouch and look from the top or bottom of the screen the colours are darker slightly which wouldn’t matter in every day life but if you are using it to look at photographs or draw with, it should be noted.
I find the Sony Vaio PCV-RS402 to be quick, quiet and easy to use, it looks stylish for all you people who like their toys to look good. As of yet I haven’t found anything I really don’t like, yes the speakers could be better but maybe I shouldn’t play my music so loud eh?
Price, I’m afraid I cannot tell you how much this one cost exactly as I was lucky enough to receive it as a gift! I do know that it was under £1000.… if I do a quick search… price varies between £699 and £1,199 depending on where you go, plus that could be with or without the monitor, but the shop where mine came from no longer stocks it. Weird…

Specifi cations for PCV-RS402...
the CPU is indeed stated to have a speed of 2.8GHz >> "Processor Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 2.80 GHz". If you wish to Criticise, then i suggest you better take it up with vaio. If you wish to do a write up on Barton core chips on your page, be my guest.
Memory = 512 MB
you can upgrade to the Maximum memory size of 2048 MB
Memory is DIMM 400Mhz (DDR) So its DDR for your information, which you could of mentioned (to the un-educated) means double data rate which is obviously faster than SDR which is single data rate... if you have that aparently you are years behind according to my sources.
Seeing as you are educated, surely you should know that 7200rpm is kinda standard nowadays?
Yes i agree a 56k modem is no good for broadband, at the time of writing this i was on dial up and did not have a clue what you needed to be able to use broadband, hence the 'don't quote me' i am now a happy BB user with a modem i plug into a USB port.
Feel free in future to leave your thoughts, but when refering to the way i write my reviews please take a look at yours first!
All spelling mistakes, and grammer errors etc (if there are any) you may class as extras.. from an un-educated Dink. |

CPU speed 2.8GHz eh, actual speed of CPU will be more like 2GHZ, thought i'd point that out to the un-eduacted - if however it is a barton core chip then it could potentially be overclocked to 2.4GHZ
The memory, is that 512MB DDR ram or SD ram?, important to know if i'm gonna buy it
120GB hard disk, does it run at 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
And NO, a 56k modem has no bearing or use for a broadband user, who will have a broadband modem one would hope!!!
A review should have all this relevant information if it is to be regarded as a review at all!!!
shwiiii ing!!!! (The educated one)
