Actraiser is an interesting mix of genres that managed to work really well. Rather than just being a platformer or just being a strategy game or just being a role playing game it instead mixed elements of all 3 to create a game which, while not perfect in any one single element, was a great mixture of all 3 and overall a fairly unique and fun game. The first time you play this you will probably hate it. The graphics in both the platform-slash 'em up and the God game sections are undeniably crude, and stink of early '90's coding as at the time coders were largely used to getting the most out of the 8-bits so SNES' capabilities were far superior to what they were used to. This meant that the early SNES games looked like NES games with higher resolutions: the 32,768 colour palette was ignored in favour of flat colours, for instance.
