Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile game for the PC is a hidden object game which will keep you entertained for hours if you like solving puzzles.
A hidden object game is basically a game where you are faced with a room. This room may be themed to a certain something or it might not be. You have a list of objects you must find within the rooms you visit. These objects can be varied and usually camouflaged into the scenery making the game more challenging.
Some objects are very easy to spot and some will drive you mad as you try to spot them.

The background behind Death on the Nile is based on the same plot as the novel. Linnet Doyle is murdered on board a cruise on the Nile. The weapon being a gun is thrown overboard. It is Hercule Poirot's job to find the murder amongst the 14 suspects on board.
All the characters in the game are true to form to match the characters in the original book.

Each level within this game is based upon three different rooms. You may re visit some of the same rooms during the game, and this makes it easier to remember where certain objects may be, especially if the same ones come up on your list.
The number of items to find in each room varies and gets more as the game progresses. You are allowed 10 minutes on the clock to search all three rooms. The one downfall to this game is that you have to fully complete one room before moving to the next one, despite them all being part of the same level.

Some levels require a bit more thinking than just finding an object. In some cases you are asked to find so many pieces of a letter. This makes it slightly harder as for example 8 pieces count as only one on your list.
You are given 5 hints per level spread across the three rooms. I would advise you not to use these hints up to soon or you may find yourself a bit stuck later on.

After finding all the objects in the three rooms, some of which may pop us as clues to your investigation, you will then have the chance to inspect the clues more closely, each object that is also deemed a clue will be stored for you to look at throughout the game. There will also be mini games attached to these such as a matching pair's game or a jigsaw to help you solve the crime.
You have the chance to question the suspects at certain points during the game. This is by a series of multiple choice questions that pop up on the screen for you to choose from.

The game will give you a good few hours of game play, but as it does require concentration due to being on a timer, I wouldn't suggest playing this when you have distractions such as small children around.

I found this game good to play when I was on maternity leave as it got my mind ticking over when all I wanted to do was sleep. The bits I didn't like about this game is that I am impatient and when the game play included telling me the story line, I was forever pressing the skip button so the first time I played this I missed out on a lot of the storyline. Consequently I then didn't choose the right suspect at the end of the game. I really would recommend if you're going to play it, you make sure you read every piece of information.

I would have preferred to be able to swap between the three rooms during a level. I found with hidden object games if I go to a different room and find the easy objects in there, I can go back to where I was stuck and a fresh look can sometimes make the objects jump out at you.

The graphics in Death on the Nile are basic but flow well against the minimalist of ram needed for this game. I would recommend playing on a full screen or you may find yourself peering really hard to find the smaller objects.

This game is available to download for an hour's free trial and then if you like it can be bought for approximately £10. Released in 2007 by Oberon Media.
