Advantages: Using god powers brings a new twise to the game.

Disadvantages: No create-a-scenario mode.

I first played this game around a friends house and i became completely hooked. before the game was released i had heard some talk of it but had never seen a review or much else about it until i played it. Any fans of the series will definatly enjoy this game as it is a fresh new idea for the AOE games. i later bought the game for around £10 and no more than this should be payed for it, keep looking around and you will find a cheaper copy ( i purchased this for £10 new from an online auction site).

Features.

A huge factor towards my enjoyment of this game is the campaign missions which are extremely extensive with 36 playable scenarios covering all three of the game modes, Greek, Egyptian and Norse. For many people who did not enjoy the campaign feature of the last 2 games this will not be a welcome change however the classic single and mulitplayer games such as conquest and death match are still very much available and still as fun as ever.

Another one of the major changes in this game is the way in whcih instead of choosing a civilisation, as in the previous games, players now choose a god ranging from the Greek Zues to the Norse Thor. The choice of god depends on the style of play and the upgrades and units a player will recieve. with different gods come different units, they also have different God Powers which can be used at any point during the game, these vary from Vault of Plenty ( which creates a monument for you that permenantly gathers resources ) to Lightning Storm ( Which will send a lighting storm to any specific area killing all enemy units around there ). Also the introduction of " Myth " units has changed the way the game is played. These units are larger and more powerfull than normal soldiers therefore more expensive.

However the introduction of god powers and Myth units has got its downside as building up a strong army and using real battle tactics is no longer a big part of the game. there is still the option of creating infantry, cavalry and archers however they are not as neccassery as they once were. I must stress that this game is called Age Of Mythology and NOT Age of Empires. although the creators and concepts are the same, the games differ in many ways (Many people expecting there to be huge battles between armys may be disapointed as a Cyclops can do the same damage as 10 cavalry units).

Conclusion

There are so many new additions and changes to this game in comparison to the erlier titles that the only way to discover them is to actually buy the game which i highly recomend for any new user of the game or any AOE veteran. This is definatly a game worth checking out especially for the price.

And to finish....
I recomend buying this game strongly however it is always constructive to view more than one opinion on it. I hope this short guide has been somewhat usefull to anyone who is looking at the game for the first time. Thanks for your time and happy gaming.

Summary: An excellent title with refreshing new ideas for the Age Of Empires series.
