Advantages: Cheap, Interesting style of game
Disadvantages: Not interesting enough, Too slow
I have always enjoyed playing so called 'management sims' like Theme Park, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Sim City, so thought that when I saw Airport Inc. on sale for £10 it was too good a bargin to miss. Usually I find that I become totally engrossed in this type of game, spending hours on end building up my empire, and watching the money roll in, then having fun spending it all, just so I can earn some more! This is where I am dissapointed with Airport Inc. It just fails to keep me interested, and I find that after playing for half an hour I am bored, and want to do something else. Once you have built the main part of your airport and opened it, all you have left to do is wait for the various contracts to come in for things like flights, fuel, shops and hotels, and to expand your airport. There is virtually nothing else to do, so you end up sitting there and only having something to deal with every few minutes. Anyway, enough of me rabbiting on about how I don't particularly like the game. Here is a bit more of an in-depth description of the game: You start the game with £20million, with which you have to buy a plot of land on which to build your airport, and build the essential features. The essential features are a terminal building, 1 or more plane stand, a taxiway, runway, control tower and fire station. After you have built these you will not have much money left, however, you do have a £10 million overdraft limit. Once your airport is open you have to negotiate contracts. To do this, you wait untill you are contacted by a company with a proposed contract. This has a list of proposed fees etc. You either accept, reject, or negotiate the contract. You have to do the same when contracts come up for renewal. Once you start earning some money you can add more features to your airport, like Plane Maintain, Airport Maintain, and cargo facilities. One nice feature is that you can look aroun
d your airport in 3D from a variety of different cameras. You can look out from the control tower, and look in the arrivals and departures lounges watching people moving around. The graphics and sound in the game are very good. As I have just mentioned it is all in 3D, and you can zoom right in to see all of the detail that has been put into the game. Overall this game was a good idea, but I don't think it has turned out that well, as it fails to keep me interested.
