This is the 4th game in the alone in the dark series; any of you who saw the graphics on the first will be glad to know that they're better much, much better but before I get into that a bit about the plot. Edward Carnby takes over the case his best friend was investigating on Shadow Island because his best friend died whilst investigating there. He goes to find out the secret of the family who live there. Edward needs to take an assistant with him so he takes Aileen Cedric who is a specialist in Indian languages. Aileen is hoping to find a set of stone tablets and scripts on the island, and she tells Edward this whilst they are on the way there. Whilst on the plane a monster attacks it and Aileen and Edward are forced to abandon the plane and as a result they land on different parts of the Island. You can now choose which character you wish to play; personally I usually play Aileen because her game seems a bit easier than Edwards's game, but at least it gives a doubly long life to the game as you can try playing the game from both characters point of view. The two characters start in different places on the Island and have different games. Aileen starts on the top of the mansion whereas Edward has to find his way to the mansion fighting monsters all the way. If you play Edward you have only one weapon (gun), a flashlight, and a radio but if you play Aileen then you only have a flashlight and a radio. As you would expect throughout the game you pick up different weapons that are more powerful than the original gun. The puzzles in the game are entertaining and involving but some of them can be quite difficult, however persistence will win out. As you go through the game you have to talk to people to get information as well as read things and just generally having a good look around. There is a good range of monsters that you have to fight, some are much harder to kill than others, but you get to know which ones can be easily dispatc
hed quite quickly. I think the graphics on this game are out of this world, a far cry from the bulky unrealistic shapes and flat featureless colours of the 1st and 2nd games. They have definitely made vast improvements. The new improved graphics, which are very realistic and clear, certainly improve the game because it's hard to feel scared when a monster looking like a green teddy bear is chasing you! (Alone in the dark 1). The sounds are also very effective and along with the graphics they create a chilling atmosphere that's perfect for the game. The background noises are perfect, not too invasive but loud enough to chill you if you hear them in the background. The only fault I can find with this game is the "Charm of Saving" there are only a few of these in the game and you can only save when you have one of these. It means that knowing when to save is one of the most crucial things. However it does mean that it can be frustrating when you have to the same bit over and over only to be killed by a zombie when you finally pass it. I have been playing this game on my laptop, which is: 1Ghz processor, 128Mb Ram and 32Mb sound/graphics and the game runs well, loading times are ok and the graphics and sound work perfectly. I would highly recommend this game because the graphics are gorgeous and the sounds scary. The fact you can play the game from two different characters so its like two games for the price of one is also a nice feature.
So There was once a time when you would have been scared of American werewolf, now the PC are getting scarier. I hook up my PC to my 5.1 hi-fi and the sounds in this game will give you the creeps. Just you give you an idea on what the story is about is that Alone in the Dark A new nightmare is based on two main, Characters Edward Carnby’s and Aline Cedrac. The story begins where Edward Carnby's best friend died during an investigation on Shadow Island (Mysterious Island off the coast). What Edward done was to take over his friend’s case on Shadow Island and see how he died. This was agreed but he had to take an assistant with him a young professor specialising in Indian languages, Aline Cedrac. As they travel to the Island on plane they discuss what they need to and what she is looking for (set of coveted stone tablets and some scripts). So as they flight along the plane get attack by a monster and they both jump out of the plane and land on the Island in two different places. Now this is where the game begins and there are so many twist and turns throughout the game. Here you able to select which character you would like to play. If you pick Aline Cedrac you start from the rooftop of the building and if you play as Edward then you start from the forest. All that your equip with is a gun and a flash torch and you have a radio to keep in contact with you team member. As you go along the game you will be able to pick up more item and firepower to make it easier to solve the puzzle. I'll let you people decide for yourself on what you think but to me this game is even better than the resident Evil Series and better than the other alone in the darks. You will have many hours of game played around 36 hours but some of the puzzles may have you waiting longer. I've brought two version of the game one on PC and the other on Playstation. Go out and alon
e and get this game. I hope you make it back to your T.V
