Arcanum was the first offering by the short-lived and aptly named development company "troika games" (troika is Russian for "three of any kind", and the company only produced three games) and was published by Sierra Entertainment (better known for releases such as Halflife, Tribes and Leisure Suite Larry) in the autumn of 2001. It is a single-player role-playing game with an isometric perspective, set in a steampunk fantasy world of the same name, where magic and technology exist in an uneasy stalemate for supremacy.
