Ascendancy was the Logic Factory?s first offering to the computer games market and is one of my favourite strategy games ever. Brought out in 1996 it caused a bit of a stir winning high acclaim from all the top PC magazines and the highest accolade of all, two thumbs up from Mr. Insane himself!!! The rules are simple; Explore the galaxy, Colonize other planets, Increase your science and your production, and Conquer!!! You start out as one of 16 races, each with it's own unique abilities. You must learn to make the most of this ability in order to win. One point I have to mention about this game is how different each species is. Unlike some Sci-Fi series where the only difference between a human and an alien is a facial feature, this game has some very good ideas about alien diversity. One species, the Chamachies, are very adept at Science, this makes them very likely to research quickly. The Govorom have the unique ability to terraform a planet into ...
