... want, or you can take control of one of the eight positions. This is what makes the game really fun. You can take control of any of your crew members and use the different systems on the B17, e.g. the turrets, pilot, copilot, bombadier, navigator. As well as this, you can also fly American and German fighters, defending and attacking bomber formations respectivly. All of this mounts up to a great simulation. The graphics in B17 are absolutely brilliant. Everything from your plane to the flak explosions is perfectly mod...more

Premium Review B-17 Flying Fortress II (PC): Good luck surviving..... (420 words)

I awaited this game for a long time, and was very pleased with the final part for the most part. Apart from some annoying game code here and there, this game comes across as the best bomber sim ever. If you've ever watched the film 'Memphis Belle' then you can expect a simulation which lets you play out many many different missions just like that film. The game is so huge in that respect that it will take a long time to complete. Especially coupled with the fact that it is a very hard game. However, although it is quite difficult, it is still as fun for the newbie as it is for the simulation expert. THis is because you can let the computer do all ...  Read the complete review

B-17 Flying Fortress - The Mighty 8TH is one of the best flight sims to date & Microprose can be very proud of their new game. You get put in command of a B-17, which you get to pick the crew of, the missions for it to fly & the positions to use on the plane. You have the choice of custom quick action missions where you can decide on the number of enemy planes that will try to shoot you down, the experience of the flak gunners on the ground & numerous other things that all make the missions that much more realistic to fly. There’s campaign mode, which lets you play a full campaign spanning the Americans’ involvement in World War II. The campaign ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review B-17 Flying Fortress II (PC): Bombs away (234 words)

This is the game I have been waiting for this year. Was it worth the wait? yes, yes, yes. The first thing that hits you about this game is the amazing graphics. Everything is well modelled and the attention to detail is what makes this game. Little things like the engines smoking on start up and the individual add dramatically to the realism of the game. It is even possible to navigate across Europe by looking out of one of the aeroplanes windows and identifying rivers and roads. Once you have got over the graphics and got stuck into the game you realise that there is game play to match. You are able to control any member of the crew- pilot, gunners, ...  Read the complete review

Flight Simulation? (118 words)
by - written on 02/03/01
Rating:

The B17 Flying Fortress, alongside the legendary Avro Lancaster, was the ultimate bomber in WWII. While Lancasters terrorised German cities during night time, B17 fleets invaded the enemy airspace during day time. Legends were born during those nights and those days. Thanks to MicroProse UK, you can create some of your own with this superb flight simulation. Did I say 'flight simulation'? In the case of B17, that's a mild understatement. In fact it would cover a minuscule part of this simulation. You see, if you play this game properly you'll spend about five percent actually flying this bomber. Most of the time you will be too ...  Read the complete review
