Once you've completed your set up, you enter the game and the first thing you'll notice is that you and any characters you meet who can join your team start at a much higher level than you did in the first game - the reason for this is that you can import your character from the original game, and also monsters you meet are tougher from the begining, there's none of the wandering round fighting little creatures just...more

Crowned Review Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn (PC): An overlong opinion about a nerdy PC game. What have I becom ... (1629 words)

Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn was released in 2000. When one of my friends got hold of a copy he assured me it was the most compelling game he?d ever played. He claimed that he was regularly staying up until 4 in the morning, so reluctant was he to go to bed and stop playing for even the few hours that it would take his body to refresh itself. He kindly acquired a copy for me. I couldn?t run the game at the time, as my RAM was insufficient. I promptly forgot about it. Last summer, in the first flush of my still-ongoing unemployment, I spent quite a lot of my spare time playing computer games. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Baldurs Gate is the best (932 words)

I was a huge fan of Baldurs Gate I, and it's one of the few older games that stayed on my shelf right through till now because it's not just playable, it's playable over and over and over again. Baldurs Gate II however, I didn't ever get round to buying - until now! For anyone who's played the original game you'll be aware of the basics of how this game works, because the format is very much the same, but for those who are completely new to it, this is an AD&D game where you lead a party of up to 6 (yourself and 5 computer created characters), in battle against a variety of creatures from goblins and orcs to dragons, witches, vampires, golems, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn (PC): Nerdy as hell, but simply amazing (616 words)

Baldur's Gate 2 Baldur's Gate 2 is simply amazing. There are not enough superlative to describe just how good this RPG is. Coming from the same guys who made the original, the Fallout games, Planescape, Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale, expectations would always be high. The original was hailed as an excellent example of a Western RPG. It had an involving plot, plenty of varied quests, adult themes and excellent dialogue. The original was a smash, prompting an expansion pack and eventually this sequel (which also got its own expansion pack- Throne of Bhaal). Once again using the Infinity Engine for an isometric perspective, you are the ...  Read the complete review

The new Baldurs gate game can come in two different types of packaging. 1 - Normal boxed game for your computer 2 - A collectors edition, which includes; a T-shirt, poster, cards about the game and some of the characters, postcards, the game itself, a demo for neverwinter nights and an extras CD. The game starts where it left off, or so I'm told as i haven't yet completed the first. But the difference is that you have been captured by Jon Irenicus who is carrying out magical expeiments and is trying to unlock your "untapped power". Suddenly Jon leaves and an explosion is heard shortly after. You are freed from your cage by your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn (PC): Deep RPG Experience (204 words)

I admit I haven't played much of this game, so I would take this review with a grain of salt. But I found a copy of this game, including the expansion (for another review) in the barging bin at my local game store. For year it sat on my shelf looking pretty but getting dusty when I decided to install it one day. The game has all the polish and presentation you could ever want, from the beginning I was getting excited. Now up to this time I had only played Dark Alliance on PS2 and Neverwinter Nights on PC. So graphically from my perspective BGII wasn't that pretty. The best thing about it is the characters, they are unique, lively and you can control each ...  Read the complete review
