Although I don't play a massive amount of online first person shooter games, I play Battlefield 2142 a lot and can honestly say that is is my favourite online shooter. As with all online games, there is a difficulty curve and it can be frustrating for first time users trying to get into the game. Thankfully, DICE have addressed this problem to some extent by allowing a single player mode to get you started. These levels contain AI rather than human players and the settings are toned down a bit to allow you to familiarise yourself with the controls and all of the features of the game. When you're ready to get stuck in, it is recommended that the player start off playing as Assault, and join a squad, meaning that you can just stick with a small group of teammates, heal them as necessary, and take a few shots too. This will give you an easier route into the game and allows you to familiarise yourself with how to play. Other player types are Recon, a general soldier with heavy infantry, Engineer, who can repair vehicles and Support who can place sentry guns and restock others' ammo. There is quite a lot of variation on game types to play, the default and most popular appears to be capturing the entire map, flag by flag. There is also a commander (who anyone can vote to be) who will be able to issue airstrikes, reveal enemy opposition and send ammo packs. As you can see, there is a great deal of depth to this game and a strategy needs to be sought and teamwork is required in order to do well. There is a great sense of working as a team in this game and you can also get grudges with people. The ability to be able to collect dog-tags of fallen soldiers is a nice touch because they can be seen publically. A great emphasize of the game is on vehicles too, where you are able to drive jeeps, big Walkers (one person to steer, one to shoot), helicopters etc. and this is where you will need engineers to help repair. There is too much in this game to be able to talk about it all, but there is a great experience awaiting anyone that is willing to put the time into it. The game is great fun to play and highly rewarding. Hope to see you online soon.
battlefield 2142 is honestly a one of a kind game. Its a fps war simulation game, that is also massively multiplay and is online... but there is a twist, its set in the year 2142. The earths resources have started to run out (food, land, oil), and war has broken out. Nations have pooled their resources to form the PAC (pan asian coalition) and on the seperate side the EU (america, uk etc). They must now battle it out. To start with, this game reduced the number of classes seen in BF2, now there are only 4, sniper (a combination of sniper and special ops in 2), assault (a combination of assault and medic), support and engineer (combination of heavy weapons and engineer in bf2). Each class has distinctive weapons, such as the engineer having anti-tank weapons, support having heavy machine guns etc etc. The only problem I would say with this is that one of the most common played solider on some maps is assault... who is also the medic... and as you can revive each other in this game, sometimes it becomes a bit of a revive-session. Ah well.... As well as futuristic guns, my favourite part of this game is the futuristic vehicles. Like the deadly walker, the floating fortesses that are the titans, and stuff like this. There are 2 main game modes, conquest (where you win by capturing bases, and killing opponents), and titan mode. In titan mode, you must capture missile silos, which then shoot rockets at the enemies titan. Once this happens for enough rockets, it will break the enemy titans shield. At this point, 1 of 2 things can happen. Either you can just wait for the enemy titan to be shot out of the sky by the rockets. Or you can board the titan via people carriers or via the escape pods in armoured carriers or your own titan, and break into 4 control rooms. Once you do this, you can detonate them, and finally detonate the titan core. This game is pretty good for this titan mode, it really is that good. However, I personally found conquest mode better on BF2 (i have a seperate review on this). Its just because there were more classes, so it wasn't like you have to kill people 5 times or so before they actually die. However the grenade camping issue (see BF2 review) is sadly still a problem, and it sort of detracts from the overall experience slightly. Also some of the maps could do with a few more windows for snipers and stuff like that. But overall, this is a pretty good game.
I joined in playing battlefield games when battlefield 2 was just released, and loved it. When i saw 2142 released, everyone i knew who also played battlefield was moving over to it. For a year or so after its release i found it to be a really enjoyable game. One of the good things was the change away from the normal capture point style of play, with titan mode. In titan mode, the match starts with capture points, which are missile silos. The more missile silos your team owns, the faster the shields of the enemy titan fall. (a large floating aircraft carrier) once the shields are down, you may enter the enemy titan and destroy various key components, eventually taking it down, and winning the match. the amount of teamwork required for this and variety of weapons made this very fun. After a good year on the game, i stopped playing for various reasons (exams etc), and didn't come back to it for around 2 years. when i came back, the style of gameplay i remembered had been lost somewhat. the first round i played, i came mid way up the server score wise. second time, i was top of the server. I wasn't playing particularity well (fumbling for buttons i couldn't remember, etc), and i think that the level of play on the average 2142 server has really dropped. this sounds like a good thing, because you have a greater influence over your team, but in reality, it means the game is less fun, as noone works in teams. Overall, i think this game is worth it because the price has dropped remarkably, as it is quite an old game. It still has plentiful support for servers, but i feel the standard of play has dropped, as good players have moved on to newer games. i would advise buying this game for a bit of fun, but not as the next game to dedicate hours and hours too.
This first-person shooter is an engaging and thrilling follow up to the three previous Battlefield games (Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2). The setting is the Earth in the grip of an ice-age, obviously in the year 2142, where resources are so scarce that everything must be fought for using futuristic weapons. This game is intended to be a multiplayer only game (although you can run around the maps fighting bots with terrible AI if you want) and is formed of large-scale matches or rounds. There are only two teams in the game, which are identified as the 'EU' and 'PAC' (European Union and Pan Asian Coalition), but all we need to know about them is one speaks English and one speaks gibberish in-game. The story and background information in-game is ridiculous nonsense, but that's ok!, because I like to think that the developers couldn't find the time for anything as trivial as a believable setting because they understandably just couldn't wait to get into the round for another royal mash up! THE IMPORTANT STUFF: This is a purely combat-based game and doesn't pretend to be anything else. They have stripped down the number of character classes from previous games in the series by combining aspects such as assault unit and medic in one class. This works very well. Combat itself is of varying pace depending on the range of the firefight, it's dirty, harsh and very satisfying. The weapons are all fairly similar really, but this is made up for by the vehicles. You will find that some practice is necessary if you're new to the game as the recoil is punishing on most infantry weapons. Squad-play is fantastic and the game has brilliant communication features, which reward players who can be bothered to utilise them, although sadly, not enough people do. Although this game is really getting on a bit now I still find myself loading it up. There are still a decent amount of servers to join too. The only potential downsides I see without going too in-depth into this awesome, classic game are the ubiquitous bugs/glitches and general laggyness. Don't be put off though! This game is brutal and still has a lot of fight left in it.
I loved the original game Battlefield 1942; it presented one of the most unique and well developed online offerings I've ever played, complete with amazing vehicles and stellar combat. When I heard that a sequel set in the future was to be developed, I was a bit sceptical, but at least hopeful that it would be good. Thankfully, EA have delivered once again with what is for the most part a great game. The film's premise is simple: another Ice Age has swept the world, destroying America and leaving the two forces in the world being the Europeans and a bunch of whining Communists. The game gained a lot of fanfare because it has such great graphics, and even three years on, they still look very good: the detail is extremely impressive, as are the textures and the depth of field. Still, what really makes this shine is the gameplay. It is incredibly addictive, particularly when you take the action online, and it has a comprehensive ranking system that has perhaps only been trumped by the recent Call of Duty games. I have spent many hours in a row playing this before, and although I do probably prefer the original game through seasoned nostalgia, this is still a very, very fun twist on the original concept. It also has some surprisingly smart AI given how dappy some of the computer players were in the previous games. This is a game that has aged very well, and has mastered the art of the online game; it is extremely entertaining to play team death matches over the web, and I can't wait for the next non-console game in the serious to come around soon (hopefully).
Battlefield 2142 is the fourth installment in the battlefield series. First there was Battlefield 1942, then Battlefield vietnam, then Battlefield 2 and now 2142. Its well over 2 years old now (im pretty sure), but in my opinion its still top notch. An online First Person Shooter, multiplayer style. There is a single player, but it doesnt really hold a candle. There are two standard "modes" in 2142, Conquest is tried and tested capture the flag style gameplay, while Titan mode is more of a "capture the silo" style. In that you have to capture missile silo's which then fire at the enemies "Titan", which is essentially a huge mother ship or in essence an artillery platform/aircraft carrier, which flies, rather than sails. Titan mode, imo, is quite different from Conquest and is very much armour/vehicle heavy. So if you are a "ground pounder" like me, its best avoided. Still its good fun at times and i do loving hopping in a gunship. The story behind battlefield is that something has happened (i cant remember what) and the earth is frozen in most places. What is left of human kind is split into two factions EU - European Union and PAC - Pan-Asian Co-aliance. The Americans are dead. At least that's what we can assume. EU and PAC are warring to get their hands on the only habitable land left on the planet. The storyline is mostly unimportant. Its the game play that matters and 2142 has it. Variety is the name of the game. There are 4 different "kits" or classes available for play. Engineer, Recon, Assault and Support. Each kit is customiseable to some extent with weapons that you unlock as you climb through the rank system, winning awards of all sorts. Pins, badges, ribbons and medals. The game takes some getting used to, but there arent thousands of maps, which might seem like a bad thing, but it isnt as you can easily get used to the maps and learn your way around. Which will lead to your future survival. Teams can consist of upto 32 people, depending on the server size (8 on ours) and they can be divided up into squads with a max of 6 peeps in each. Plus 1 commander, who has a sexy top down view of the battlefield and can help his team to victory with Orbital Strikes (artillery), UAV's (Unmanned Ariel reconnaisance Vehicles), Supply crates (erm..) and general good will. There's far too much to go into here. But i will shortly describe why i love it: - variety you can do everything from repairing tanks to flying gunships, to reviving fallen teammates with shock paddles Battlefield 2142 is the fourth installment in the battlefield series. Hates -NOT enough guns, in my opinion. - stats padders, hackers, exploiters ruin the game. Watch out for in game advertising which is a sore point for some peeps, but i enjoy it Sniping is good fun, but beware, people are obsessed with knifing you and taking your "Dog tags" for bragging rights ive clocked up 1,500 hours. There are people out there with far more under their belt. It is addictive.
This is probably my favourite game to play on PC. The premise of the game is there has been an ice age, and it has made it hard to find land to make food, and the result is as you would have guessed, war. I played Battlefield 2 before playing 2142, and I found it to be good but was a bit normal; so Battlefield 2142 was very good with its twist. It keeps all the features of Battlefield 2, running a squad, giving orders etc but also adding huge walkers that have rockets and machine guns, what more could you want!? This game is only truely enjoyable with an internet connection. Single player is exactly the same as multiplayer, except you fight AI; which gets very boring, very quickly. From what I have played on it I have encountered very few cheaters which is always good for a mainly online game. As with battlefield 2, the more you play, the more upgrades you recieve. However, the upgrades you recieve in 2142 are very helpful within the game; items such as defribulators, injections that make you run faster. This game came out in 2006 and still has a big community, with servers always running.
Having been a fan of the battlefield series for a long time, I had high expectations for this game. A brilliant game with a sci-fi twist? Sounds good! And it was. The story is simple, yet quite cool. Global warming leads to a new ice age, which has frozen the earth to the north and south of the equator - leaving little land for producing food. This results, like most things, in war. EA have basicly made new maps, new models and new weapons using the Battlefield 2 engine. They have done this very well, making the two armies futuristic yet still realistic enough to be 130 years in the future. If you don't have the internet or have no intention of playing this game online then don't buy it. The singleplayer is limited to only a few maps against 15 bots - which is entertaining for about 10 minutes. Playing online is fantastic, you are literally placed in the middle of a war with dozens of players all around you. The best game mode by far is the assault mode, where large ships from each army fly around the battlefield. Your objective is to board the enemy ship and take down the critical points inside. This will bring the ship down and grant your team victory. Bearing in mind that each ship has shielding, huge cannons, automated defenses, lazer doors and literally an army of players defending it this is no easy feat. Teamwork and preparation will grant you victory. The graphic requirements are not especially high, but it is best played on high graphic settings for the optimum experience. Be sure to download the patches too, as Punkbuster may kick you from online matches if your files are not up to date. A solid game, but only for the multiplayer. The singleplayer is definately not worth even a rent, let alone a purchase.
Battlefield has always been true to the series no matter what time period. This times its set in the year 2142 where players fight for survival in an epic global conflict between the European Union and the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. The story and the conflicts are all based around these two super powers and their fight for survival across a planet which is on the horizon of another ice age. The game itself follows true to the same basis the other entire battlefield games are run with the same control set out, squad and team functions and the multiplayer superiority over most modern shooter war games of our time. The multiplayer is probably the most fun part of the game and its replay value is just outstanding. Military ranks are input into the game that allows you to advance trough ranks and gain more sufficient equipment on the battlefield which will bolster the replay value and the sheer fun of the game much further. The single player too is quite entertaining as it gives a real insight into the story of this conflict with a wide variety of classes and vehicles to operate and dominate. It seems EA has yet again has created a great game which will join its other very successful counterpart titles.
What is Battlefield 2142? Battlefield 2142 is a first-person shooter PC game. And is part of the Battlefield game series. The game is set in the 22nd centuray in a new ice age with two military superpowers which are the European Union (EU) and Рan Asian Coalition (PAC) which are at war with each other. Multi-player or single-player? The game was mainly designed and focused on it being an online multi-player game however a single player mode is available but doesnt compare to online play. With online play you can have up to a maxium of 64 players online whereas with single player you can only have a maxium of 16 players with only one game mode "Conquest" Whats the unlock and stats system? The game has it's own ranking system which keeps track of everything you do in the game which allows you to rank up and then recive a unlock of your choice to the class of your choice. Gameplay Battlefield 2142 includes two gameplay modes, Conquest and Titan. Conquest mode is just capture the flag mode. Where both teams are fighting each over and have to take control of spawn points/flags on the map and the flags status are shown on the map and mini-map with which team currently has control or a grey flag for un-capped meaning no-one has captured it yet. Once a team owns more than 50% of the flags there enemys ticket counter starts to reduce. The teams who's ticket counter reaches 0 first looses. But if your loosing, you can still overtake your enemys flags. There are various variations of Conquest modes which are; Head-on, Assault, Assault Lines, and Double Assault Lines, Conquest Assault, No Vehicles. The Titan mode involves players from opposing teams whose objective is to destroy the other team's Titan, while trying to defend their own. Titans are massive, heavily-armored, flying warships, which have powerful force fields protecting them from enemy intrusion or weapons fire. Players must fight to control the anti-Titan missile silos scattered about the battlefield on the ground. Titans can be moved around the battlefield, but only by the team's Commander. Each Titan can defend itself and contribute to the fight on the ground with 4 anti-ground guns and 2 anti-air guns. Moving the Titans can cause ping issues, so some players prefer not to move them at all. Battlefield 2142 features four different playable kits. Each kit has different weapons and equipment that are unique to that kit. Each kit contains a basic weapon, secondary weapon, and knife (You can use the knife to kill an enemy and gain their dog tags.) Assault: The Assault class is a combination of the assault and medic class from Battlefield 2. The main weapons of the class are assault rifles with unlockable rocket or shotgun add-ons. Other unlocks include advanced first-aid kits which can be deployed to restore the health of anyone standing close to it, smoke grenades for screening, and a defibrillator for reviving fallen comrades. The Assault kit's helmet upgrade allows soldiers to determine what type of kit the enemy soldier is using, and assigns the appropriate icon above the "enemy spotted" marker this information is also shared with the rest of your teammates. Recon: The recon class is also a combination from the previous Battlefield 2 class of the sniper and the special forces. The main weapons are sniper rifles, while there is also an unlockable carbine for close-range encounters. This class can unlock a variety of explosives, including APMs and remote-detonated RDX charges, both of which can kill infantry upon detonation, and the latter can also be used for destroying enemy vehicles and assets. Another unlockable item is the Active Camo system, which makes the user mostly invisible to other soldiers for a period of time. The Recon kit's helmet upgrade increases the time the "enemy spotted" marker stays on the HUD. Engineer: The engineer class is another combination of the anti-tank and engineer from the previous Battlefield 2. The main weapon for this class is a anti-vehicle rocket launcher. Other unlockable main weapons include a high powered anti-tank rifle lacking guidance systems and an anti-air missile launcher with guidance systems. The equipment unlocks include motion-sensitive anti-vehicle mines, a vehicle repair kit, and a defusing device for enemy explosives. While the other classes carry a pistol as their sidearm, the Engineer class has a submachine gun to compensate for its lack of an anti-infantry weapon. The Engineer's helmet upgrade works similarly to the Assault kit's, but identifies and assigns icons for vehicles instead of infantry. Support: Unlike the others the support class remains fairly the same. The default weapon for the class is a light machine gun. Unlike other weapons, this machine gun becomes more accurate the longer it is fired. Other unlockable main weapons are a heavy machine gun and a shotgun. The equipment for this class includes ammunition hubs, deployable sentry guns, a sonar device to locate enemy infantry, EMP grenades, and individual deployable energy shields. The Support kit's helmet upgrade passively spots any enemy within a certain range that starts using the Active Camo. The cloaked enemy's marker will appear on both the HUD and the mini-map, and both will track as long as the enemy is within the Support's line of sight. Graphics With most PC games graphics depends on how powerful your computer is and how good your graphics/video card is but if your running the game with the reccomended specs then the game looks very nice and surprisenlgly releastic for such large scale maps. If your unsure if your PC can run the game, take the test from this website by selecting BF 2142 (http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/)
Battlefield 2142, is a first person shooter, the fourth in the series published by Electronic Arts and surprisingly set in the future in 2142, the game plays like it predecessors and many of the options are similar but brought into the future Game play The game itself is set during a new ice age in 2142, there is two main powers the European Union and the Pan Asian Coalition, and is mainly designed for online players, the single player is pretty basic you just play a conquest mode against the computer, basically just practice for online. As in many first person shooter games there is different classes to choose from depending on the type of player you are and you can unlock weapons and other items as you go along making your soldier more efficient. The four classes to choose from are Assault, Recon, Engineer and Support. There is two main game types Titan and Conquest, in conquest you have to capture and defend points in the game, the areas have flags on them, the more flags you hold and the longer for the more points you get, plus you can only respawn a certain amount of times. In Titan mode you have to destroy the enemies Titan, which is a flying warship with shields, you have to control anti-titan missile silos around the map to bring it down. There is several large maps to play on with a wide selection of weapons and advanced vehicles to play around with. Controls/Graphics The graphics are detailed and good and pretty decent for a first person shooter game, the controls can be set to your own liking so they are pretty easy to learn Difficulty The single player is pretty easy to complete as the AI is pretty bad and easy to defeat. It only becomes hard when you play online against other players who have had plenty of practice. Value for Money With both single player and multiplayer there is plenty of game play although the single player is fairly short and easy to complete it is fun and worth playing, you will get plenty of game play online so this more than makes up for it.
Battlefield 2142 is another good first-person shooter game, what I really like and I really enjoy it. Battlefield 2142 is playable in singleplayer and online. Singleplayer is real disappointment for me, enemy's are noobs, they are real rookies and they just can't play good, even then, if you put their strength level to maximum. Also maps are very small in singleplayer and also you can't change map size, you can choose between five maps. As you read singleplayer sucks, but online is really good and really interesting, you get rank-ups with points what your have earned from games per kills and teamwork. Also you get awards, like medals and ribbons and awards helps you get rank ups much faster and easier. There are many modes in online, like conquest mode, titan mode, no vehicles mode (New). In conquest mode you have to capture flags and like that you earn points and enemy's points are going low faster. In titan mode, you have to capture silos, and one minute after capturing silo shoots a rocket to enemy titan, if enemy titan shield is down, you can go inside titan and destroy it. No vehicles is same as conquest mode, but there are no vehicles, only infantry. MY OPINION Really great game in my opinion, graphics as well, but in my thought Battlefield 2 graphics are much better and more realistic. But nevertheless this game is recommended to everyone, especially to shooting game fans. My rating is 9 out of 10
this game is a really good online only game. You can customise your character which is really easy and there is alot of options to mess about with to create a really good character. the graphics of this game are REALLY good (obviously depending on what video card you have). it is rated 16+ because of the nature of the game, it contains alot of fighting. the game is set in the ice age and the object of the game is to capture the openents flags. The games seems really worth the money but you must have an internet connection otherwise you cant play it, the only thing wrong with the game is that is too addictive! when my partners playing it i dont hear anything for hours exept when he's losing! to play the game you have to create an EA account, which you use to log onto the EA servers.
This game is superb! purely and simply superb. It offers the first person shooter one of the most fantastic games i have ever had the pleasure to play. The basis of the game is that the year is 2142, suprised i hear you say, well indeed i was too. The world has entered a new ice age and there are two large factions the PAC and EC. They are fighting each other for the remaining resources in the world and the game enables you to play some of those missions. Without an internet connection this game can become quite boring quickly as there are only 5 or 6 maps on the game and you can only play the 16 player map size versions, which are fun but a bit too small. Online is a different story entirely and providing you have a decent internet connection the game will keep you interested for a long time. Throughout the game the you earn points which will progress you through the rank structure and unlock better weapons and upgrade options to make you better at killing people. This game is definately not for the gamer who wants to compete the game with 24 hours and move on to the next one. You are playing against real people and the gaps between each promotion get bigger the higher you go. It will take months of solid gaming to get to the top ranks and the average gamer it will take years. This game replaces the battlefield 2 games and is much more user friendly. By this i mean the vehicles, mainly the flying ones, are easier to use but still have realism in them. The weaponary is all feasable and not too different from many weapons that are in use today. The game requires a decent internet connection and to benefit from its excellent graphics potential a decent graphics card is also critical. No less than a 512mb if you want the best it can offer. Also this game is one that has been written with attention to sound detail. It has a specific option in its settings for the outstanding creative x-fi sound card which adds realism and crystal clear sound to the game. With a decent surround sound system as well the neighbours will be thinking that world war 3 has broken out in your living room. Overall it is a superb first person shooter which will leave fans of the battlefield series wanting more and more. The devlopers are constantly upgrading the software and at the moment release this free to anyone that owns the game.
Ok.Own a pc?Yes?Love first person shooters?Got an internet connection?Course you have! Then do your self a favour forget COD4,Crysis and Team Fortress 2 this is the online shooter with THE best gameplay! It may not be that pretty considering its based on the BF2 engine which is now approaching 4 years old but i guarantee you will love this game. Why is it that great i hear you say?As a veteran of BF2 i have never played a game as much as this one,i have nearly 700 hrs game time in 2142.Every round is different with many vehicles, pins, ribbons, medals and badges to collect. There is something for everyone here-there are 4 different soldier classes Recon,Assault,Engineer and Support all with multiple unlocks and many weapons and gadgets to use.Lots of different vehicles which i think are far more exciting than in BF2 such as the Walker and FAV.There are currently about 15 maps available which are all at least 5 times the size of the maps in COD4.You can play on servers up to 32 players per side which can get really frantic but not in the spawn camping way that COD 4 is.If you fancy commanding your side that option is available to you too where you can give orders to squads of up to 6 people. If i were to give this a score out of 100 i would give it 95.The only reason i dont give it 100 is that it can be buggy at times which can be frustrating but the game has been around approaching 2 years and there is a large community of players out there that will be more than willing to help solve any problems that might occur.MY personal favourite game of all time:)
In Battlefield 2142?, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers - the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition -in an epic battle for survival. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive Battle Walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on this futuristic armor players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new hi-tech countermeasures like EMP grenades and smart mines to level the playing field.
