Advantages: well produced, educational
Disadvantages: none
We recently bought the BBC Noddy cd rom for our children. They've already got the BBC Pingu, Teletubies and Tweenies cd roms. These are all very well produced and guaranteed to keep your children entertained and educated. Noddy is no exception to this, it is very well thought out and just the job for our younger two, aged 3 and 6 years. The cd is very easy to set up, install basic files and Quicktime video and you're ready to go. The menu system is simple to use and gives straightforward navigation around the 9 main area. 1, Cinema. This gives 2 short videos, each 10 minutes long. Noddy and the Silly Hens and Noddy cheers up Big Ears. The on screen controls allows for these to be paused, rewound or forwarded - usefull if they want to move on to the next activity. 2, Storytime. This is an interactive storybook. The words are displayed at the bottom of the screen, lighting up as they are said. 3, Toy town our. Here you "sit" in Noddy's car and take one of three tours around Toytown. Searching for lost items as you go. You control the direction of travel. 4, Cartoon Collage. This is a clever way to make a moving picture, simply arrange some of the characters and objects on one of the six screens. When you're happy with it the scene can be animated. Dialogue can be added to make a mini film. 5, Invisible paint. This is a spot the difference game. Starting from two identical pictures up to five items will be removed one. The game changes the items removed each time to avoid it becoming repetitive. 6, Artbox. This is a painting activity. Ten drawings are available to colour in using the brush, roller or pencil. 7, Snap. Traditional snap game featuring Noddy characters. This automatically increases in difficulty after each win. 8, Who said that ? This is a memory game. Sounds are linked to each of the six pictures on screen. The object of the game is to remember the
sequence of sounds and which picture each sound was linked to. 9, Maze. There are two mazes to choose from, each with up to 5 themes. In each objects need to be collected to complete the task / letters collected to spell a word. In all these 9 areas of activity give many hours of fun. Each area is educational and does help learning as well as making computer use fun.
