Advantages: Entertaining, free if you don't mind adverts
Disadvantages: Not worth paying for
I seem to have spent the last few weeks doing very little with my time. Despite having exams coming up and lots of revision to, I seem to find myself spending most of my time alone on pointless endeavours rather than doing anything useful (though, of course, I have been spending some time reading and writing reviews and articles). One of the ways in which I've been passing my time has been by playing downloadable games from iwin.com, as many of them are 100% free, and so provide some mindless entertainment for a few hours without costing you anything. One of these games is Beach Party Craze, which is a time management game.
In this game, you are in charge of a beach area, and have to provide your guests with whatever refreshments or entertainment that they so wish. This may include bringing them steaks, water, selling them clothes, toys, and allowing them to rent boats or dance at a disco. The game consists of 40 or so levels, each with its own targets which you must achieve in order to advance to the next. By completing each level you earn a certain amount of points, which allow you to buy upgrades or new buildings, which may be essential for you to be able to play subsequent levels.
The game format will be familiar to any of you who have played time management games, as almost all of the genre have a format of levels with tasks to complete before you advance. This is a good format for games aimed at casual gamers, as it doesn't require a huge amount of attention or memory power, and with its short levels it is easy to dip in and out of this game, as you don't have to commit to playing it for hours at a time. This game in particular will be familiar to those of you who have played the Farm Frenzy series, as the level objectives system and the ability to purchase upgrades is almost identical in this game, although the actual actions and buildings are beach based instead of farm based.
This game is a good way to spend a few minutes here in there, though you can also sit and play it for hours if you so wish. I would recommend only playing this game if you can find it for free (try http://www.iwin.com), as although it is available for purchase, I don't really think that it's worth the money. I finished this game after playing it for around ten days, and so although I enjoyed it and may play it again in the future, it's really not worth the £13 pounds or so that it would cost.
Summary: Good way to spend some time

- 30/04/09 Sound relentlessly dull. But I'm not one for dipping in and out of games, which is perhaps why I avoid browser titles... |
