You struggle to find hard evidence to prove this, but you have a gut instinct that the two things are related - especially when you start having terrifying dreams and hallucinations of what appears to be another world, and of an evil-looking man with a meat cleaver. You are left with nothing to go on but your wits and a few hunches, with a little help from a friendly young female museum curator who tries to help you decipher some ancient symbols you find, your supportive boss at the COI, grizzled and...more

Year of release: 1997 Publisher: Take 2 Starring: Dennis Hopper as Walter Pensky Teri Carr as Madame Cassandra Darren Eliker as Jim Pearson David Whalen as Dick Winslow Hilary Morris as Elizabeth Short This is a bit of an obscure item, but well worth seeking out if you like unusual mid-1990s FMV games for the PC. I've been intrigued with the unsolved mystery of the Black Dahlia since I was a kiddie and first heard of this tragic story. As you may know, the 'Black Dahlia' was a beautiful young aspiring 1940s actress named Elizabeth Short, nicknamed Black Dahlia for her black hair and preference for black ...  Read the complete review

The Black Dahlia...is one teriffic game, not for the fainthearted though, I consider myself not too bad at games, yet this one took me 3 months to complete, yet I gotta say it was well worth the effort...The main character the one you play is a guy called Jim Pearson, and you really start to think you are him, and he's kinda cool and real funny and pretty dumb at times too....it's a point and click game, with some real hard puzzles that keep you going for ages, the graphics are brilliant, and the game is full of atmosphere, like your taking part in a movie,Dennis Hopper even puts in an appearance....The game gets quite scary at parts too....it's about ...  Read the complete review

...and a plotline too. That's the main reason I buy these so called "Interactive Movies", they do tend to have good plotlines to hold the game together. In this case a very good game. The year is 1941, November in fact, and America is readying itself for World War. That means that anything Nazi, or any group that exhibts Nazi-like activity, is being hunted down using all means possible. In this game it means the American Government has formed a unit called the C.O.I (Office of the Coordinatior of Information, technically that should be OCI but I guess soeone made a boob). You play detective Jim Pearson, Rookie at the COI, replacing an agent whose ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cool and Very Hard (106 words)
by - written on 05/09/00 (Very useful, 24 readings)
Rating:

Set in Pre-War America (1941...it was pre-war for them, remember), Black Dahlia ia about both a serial killer and a secet, occult, Nazi-sympathizing club. From the very beginning it is hard to know what exactly is fact and what is slightly embellished fact. It all blends together so seamlessly that you find yourself transported into the story immediately. It is very much like the Pandora Directive in movement and control, with many cool cut scenes. They really harped on about Dennis Hopper being in this one, but really the other actors are just as good in this. Watch out, though-- the puzzles are extremely difficult. ...  Read the complete review
