Black Hawk Door is a first person shooter, the next in the Delta Force series of games, it has the same name as the film and the book but is not made by the same people although it is obviously using it as a base.
You play as a soldier in the American Army and the game is set in Somalia in the 1990's, you are on a peacekeeping mission so you have to protect convoys, provide security and defend areas from attack and for each mission you play a soldier from different regiment.
A average first person shooter with weapons based on real weapons at the time. The levels are all pretty much standard for a shooter game you have to follow the path set out not much area for you to explore
As in most games of this type you have to select your weapon and can only carry limited ammo for them so you have to choose carefully depending on the levels,
The AI is not very good and the enemy do not find cover just usually stand there waiting for you to kill them, and you team mates are no help what so ever and more of a hindrance then a help.
It is fairly easy to control and the keys are customisable so you can set the controls to your own liking. The camera angles are pretty good and the graphics are fairly good with a few good cut scenes.
As in most games it has online play with match types like death match, team death match and capture the flag being the main game types with a few others thrown in. You have to select your class and your weapons as like in other games to your own setting and join a team.
Value for Money
A standard first person shooter, that is not that long or too hard to complete and once completed once you would not really want to play it again and the multiplayer is not up to much, only worth buying if you can pick it up cheap as much better games available to buy.
Although if you like creating your own maps it comes with a mission editor so you can create maps of your own and missions.
Ignore the title of this, its actually part of NovaLogic's extremely successful Delta Force series of games. It appears they finally dropped the Delta Force tag from this version of the release but it still has all the elements of the original Delta Force & Delta Force: Land Warrior.
Basically you take on the role of a member of the Delta Force special ops team going in to rescue the guys downed in the Black Hawk back in the 1990's.
All the missions are based on real scenarios that US Special Forces took on as missions. Let me tell you, they ARE NOT easy missions! I consider myself to be pretty experienced as someone who has completed both Delta Force AND Land Warrior and this series of missions are extremely tough.
Its a First Person Shooter but there's a lot more AI to the enemies, especially in this particular release. The Somali guerillas are pretty accurate shots and you'll find for some of the missions where you have to fly in by helicopter its not easy to maintain health before you land because they'll fire everything except the kitchen sink to shoot your chopper down.
I'd say the best mission in the game is escorting the transports to the stadium for evac, it's a very long mission through tight streets with lots of spots for snipers to hide and places where you can be ambushed. It takes a lot of thought, lots of accurate shooting (6 yrs RAF experience helped there!) & knowing when or where to take cover.
At its now amazingly cheap price its an excellent buy if you like to use your brain as well as killing bad guys in hostile places.
Graphics are good, game play is tough but enough to keep you coming back to want to complete each mission. It retains the ability to select weapons according to your personal preference, you can still switch between 1st or 3rd person views & there is internet connectivity for online gaming with other like minded players.
