Released in 1998, 'Blood 2' is the sequel to one of the most innovative and relentlessly fun first person shooters of all time. Playing as Caleb, an undead anti-hero in a trenchcoat and cowboy hat with demonic red eyes, you are fighting against CabalCo, the modern incarnation of a secret occultist sect who seperated you from your wife centuries ago and are hellbent on resurrecting their long absent Master, Tchernobog. The game engine and graphics are still quite impressive, with Monolith games having developed their own Lithtech 3D engine for the game, and the level settings are varied, including museums full of priceless antiquities, creepy, run down houses ... If you loved the first Blood game (Blood 3D), then no doubt you'll be interested in this one. However, just like the first, this one is buggy (the first one crashed when you went underwater if you didn't have a real Creative SoundBlaster; bugs this time are graphical). Despite the problems, there is a more puzzle feel to this game, and less adrenaline-pumping straight blasting. There are also cut scenes to help the story along. Blood 2 The Chosen. Much better than the first outing as you would expect. This time the game uses the Quake engine and has got a more realistic feel to it. The Chosen begins in the year 2028, 100 years after the original events in Blood. Caleb, Blood’s undead anti-hero, has walked the Earth this entire time, trying to mind his own business, and get through day to day life. One of the main differences In Blood 2 is that you can choose one of three characters to plays as, Caleb, Ophelia or Ishmael. Although I feel the game plays better with Caleb, it is fun with the other two. The story is pretty much the same as the first one, apart from ... Read the complete review

Hmm...what a name. Blood. I guess the creators of Blood 2 wanted to tell you what the main "selling point" of their game was going to be. Trouble is, if you want gore Soldier of Fortune beats this game hands down. Anyway, now the gore arguement is out of the way, what is the game actually like? Well the closest thing I can think of is "Updated Doom". It is a simple shoot-everything-that-moves shooter with objectives thrown in to give you the impression that it requires some thought. It doesn't. Now onto one of the main ingredients of any 3D Shooting game: The Weapons. Here is where Blood 2 scores the most marks as the weapons are ... Read the complete review
