Advantages: amusing story and laid back feel to the game
Disadvantages: competition for items, dodgey server joins, leveling issues
borderlands is an open play RPG, similar to fallout 3 and oblivion, but with more load screens. up to 4 players can switch in and out of a game while playing, and all working towards the same objectives. this sounds like a good concept, but has failed in a few ways.
items - when there are 4 people playing on a server, and a good time appears, everyone completely abandons their objective and does a quick dash for the item. this completely ruins the teamwork feel of the game, and means it is somewhat difficult to get good items you want.
levelling - it is extremely hard to find a game where everyone is similar level and working towards the same part in the story. most of the time, a strong player will join a weak server, and make all enemies impossible to kill for lower players. they then collect a load of weapons they are too low in level to use, and cant experience the story line properly.
repetition - the game does not actually last that long. for you to get any good in terms of on-line play, you need to play the story through several times, and this really gets boring. enemies seem much too easy at the start and much too hard at the end (unless you get lucky with a weapon drop). playing the same story can only be fun a limited number of times, and this means the game isn't really fun in an on-line sense.
overall, i would say if you find this game for a reduced price, or have money to spend, then get this game. It was fun to play through and the story line and feel of the game was very amusing. if you are looking for a new online game to practice and become good at, then this really is not the game for you. good game - very limited play time - many annoying niggles.
Summary: good for a single play through, not worth it after that
